Chapter 147
Lydia’s breath hitched. She wondered if she’d misheard.
Se vousne
[Mission requirement: Take out at least 2 players. The more you eliminate, the bigger the rewards. If you manage 5 kills you get to choose any reward from the prize pool.]
[Current kill count: 1.]
[Oh, and your weapon? It’s the Stellaf Hammer, handed down from the last Hunter.]
Lydia glanced down at the two Stellar Hammers lying on the ground.
Lydia nearly swore out loud.
The Nation had already contacted her, told her the Hunter this round was a player and warned her to be careful around those people. But no one bothered to mention that if you killed the Hunter, you’d have to take their place.
“This game is so rigged.” Lydia grumbled.
Lydia bent down and picked up the Stellar Hammer. The handle felt light in her grip, just as easy to swing as when Paul had used it.
[Stellar Hammer: tailored to your strength. When you swing it, the impact weight can be up to a hundred times what it feels like in your hands, maxing out at 10,000 pounds.]
She gave it a test swing, when the hammerhead crashed into the floor, it left a deep crater.
Lydia was genuinely surprised. She’d already taken two Strength Potions, so if the hammer felt like about 22 pounds to her. it would smash down with 2,200 pounds of force!
Pierre glanced at Paul’s corpse. “Want to loot him?”
“Yeah,” Lydia said.
Lydia crouched down and searched Paul’s body, finding a vial with a label on it.
[Hemostatic Serum: Stops bleeding fast.]
After looting, she grabbed both Stellar Hammers. “Let’s go, Pierre.”
“Where to?” Pierre asked.
“We’re going to find Lyra. See if you can sense where she is. Let’s move,” Lydia said.
“Lyra needs to know the Hunter can change hands,” Lydia added.
“As long as players fight back like I did, this slaughter won’t stop. And obviously, no one’s going to just sit there and die,” Lydia said.
Pierre floated next to her. “You still need one more kill.”
“No hurry, there’s still loads of time,” Lydia replied.
“What if someone tries to take you out?” Pierre asked.
Then I’ll send them straight to hell,” Lydia said.

Lyra opened another treasure chest, and inside was a gray bandage.
[Congratulations! You’ve found a valid treasure chest. Please collect your reward item.]
[Hemostatic Bandage: Wrap it around a wound for ten seconds to stop bleeding. Usage limit: 3 times.]
Lyra stuffed the bandage into her pocket and patted her jacket.
Her left pocket felt hard.
Her right pocket was bulging.
She paused for a couple of seconds. “Clara.”
Clara hovered by her shoulder. “Yeah?”
“Remind me to have the researchers upgrade my combat suit when we get back,” Lyra said.
“What do you want changed?” Clara asked.
Lyra patted her pocket. “Just make sure it has more pockets next time.”
Clara just stared at her.
Lyra pulled out her Silent Card and checked it over.
“It needs more layers and hidden pockets. Otherwise, I can’t stash all my loot, it’s such a pain,” Lyra said.
Clara raised an eyebrow. “You call that a pain?”
Lyra chuckled. “That’s what I call the woes of sudden wealth.”
Clara just stared at her for a long moment.
The countdown on the wall kept ticking down.
[Hunt countdown: 2:50:06]
Lyra looked up. “Time’s almost up.”
Clara immediately turned to her. “We’re staying here for this round?”
“Yeah,” Lyra replied.
Clara floated in front of her. “I’ll shield you.”
As soon as Clara wrapped Lyra up, the whole room jerked violently to the left. Dumbbells bounced off the floor, crashed into the walls, then ricocheted wildly around. The treadmill’s belt snapped and whipped, metal plates banging and clattering everywhere.
Lyra hovered in midair, watching the chaos. “It’s flipping way faster than when we were hiding.”
Clara’s expression tightened. “And the angles are all over the place.”
The room lurched left, then shot upward, before suddenly dropping at a steep angle.
“The game’s really trying to lower the survival rate,” Lyra said.

Ten seconds later, the room stopped spinning. All the equipment snapped back into place, and the floor was spotless, like nothing had ever happened.
Clara set Lyra down.
Lyra started walking. “Let’s go.”
Lyra pushed open the door, and behind it was a dressing room.
A female player was slumped against the vanity, blood still trickling from her forehead, half her face swollen, and her lip split. When she heard the door open, she flinched and shrank back.
When she saw Lyra’s face, her breath hitched.
“P-please, don’t kill me,” the girl stammered in broken Draconian.
“I don’t have any items, I didn’t attack you,” she added.
Lyra shot her a quick look, stepped around the chair on the floor, and headed for the other door.
Seeing Lyra spare her, the girl suddenly called out, “Wait!”
Lyra stopped in her tracks.
“I have some info!” the girl called out.
Lyra turned around. “What is it?”
The girl swallowed hard. “Before the room flipped, I was hiding in here and overheard a player talking to someone outside.”
Lyra stared at her.
The girl spoke faster. “He said he couldn’t take you down, so maybe he should try targeting Lil Lily instead.
Lyra frowned. “Who?”
The girl shook her head. “I didn’t see anyone. The wall was in the way, I only heard his voice.”
Lyra took a step closer. “Guy or girl?”
“Guy,” she said.
She thought for a second, then said, “He was speaking English.”
“Anything else?” Lyra asked.
“That’s all I heard,” she replied.
Lyra fished a Hemostatic Bandage out of her pocket and tossed it to the girl.
The girl fumbled to catch it. “What’s this?”
“Payment for the info, Lyra said.
The girl shook her head. “No, really, I’m just grateful you didn’t kill me.”
