Lyra and Lina were interrogating Jung-hoo when the game announcement echoed through the room.

Lina stood next to Lyra, her gaze locked on the countdown ticking away on the wall.

“Goddess Lyra, only five minutes left until the Battle Royale. What should we do next?” Lina asked.

“We’ll stay put. With five minutes to go, everyone should start gathering here. Once we’re all together, each person will have two souls with them,” Lyra replied.

Lina frowned. “Two?”

“Sergei ran into a player with a bell, and Jung-hoo has a Soul Lock Card. Who knows what else people might have up their sleeves? With two souls, even if one gets locked down, the other can serve as a backup,” Lyra explained.

Lina nodded.

Jung-hoo, sprawled on the floor, froze for a split second when he heard the game announcement mention “Battle Royale” and “real-time locations.” Then, a bitter, self-mocking laugh escaped him.

“Real-time locations,” Jung-hoo muttered.

He turned his head toward the wall, his eyes bloodshot. “Why couldn’t it have happened sooner?” Jung-hoo muttered, a sense of regret and irony twisting inside him.

Lyra looked down at him.

Jung-hoo’s voice was hoarse. “If this had happened just half an hour earlier, I could’ve used the location map to track down the Hiders. I wouldn’t have had to take such a gamble and go after Lily.”

“Isn’t it ridiculous? I wandered the maze for so long, except for Alex, I didn’t see a single living soul. And now the game tells me everyone’s positions will be revealed in five minutes,” Jung-hoo said, letting out a bitter, mocking laugh.

He laughed so hard he coughed up blood, his forehead hitting the floor. He didn’t say another word.

Lina glanced at him, then told Lyra, “He says he wandered forever and met no player except Alex, so desperation makes sense. His luck was awful: only allies. I’d snap too.”

“Man, he was born to be a Hider,” Lyra sighed. “Too bad he got stuck playing the Hunter.”

Lyra suddenly had a thought. “He ran into Alex? Lina, ask him if his decision to target Lil Lily had anything to do with Alex.”

Lina crouched down in front of Jung-hoo and spoke in Hanmarkian. “You ran into Alex? Did he say anything? Was your decision to go after Lil Lily because of him?”

Jung-hoo’s face was pressed against the floor, blood still trickling down. His voice was muffled. “It had nothing to do with Boss. The cheat sheet, I got it myself from a chest I opened.”

“I’m not asking about the chest,” Lina said, her tone calm and steady. “I want to know what he said. Tell me exactly what you two talked about.”

Jung-hoo was quiet for a couple of seconds, then just let it out. “Boss gave me a Healing Potion for my leg injury.”

“Anything else?” Lina pressed.

“He handed me some Trail Incense to help me find people, and a Soul Lock Card,” Jung-hoo added.

Chapter 156

Lina’s brows furrowed. “He gave you a Soul Lock Card? Did he want you to kill Lil Lily?”

“No, he said I should use it to escape. Boss told me if the Trail Incense led me to Lyra and her crew, I should use the Soul Lock Card to lock their souls down, then run away,” Jung-hoo replied.

“He also said…” Jung-hoo let out another bitter laugh, regret in his voice. “He told me not to mess with Lily.”

Lina stared at him for a few seconds, then stood up and walked back to Lyra.

“He said the cheat sheet came from a chest he opened himself. Alex just patched him up and handed him two items: some Trail Incense to track people down and a Soul Lock Card for making a getaway,” Lina reported.

“He also told him to stay away from Lil Lily,” Lina added.

Lyra didn’t respond right away.

“His explanation seems reasonable, and he even told him to stay away from Lil Lily,” Lina said, watching Lyra’s reaction.

“His story makes sense, but don’t you think it’s odd he kept mentioning ‘escaping’?” Lyra asked.

Lina looked puzzled.

“Who exactly are we supposed to be running from?” Lyra pressed.

“Do any of us kill on sight?” Lyra asked. “We only fought people who targeted us first. Lina, you bait people, sure, but have you chased anyone who walked by harmlessly?”

“No,” Lina replied.

“So what makes Alex think Jung-hoo needs a Soul Lock Card just to get away?” Lyra questioned, suspicion in her voice.

Lina’s brows knitted together.

“Sometimes, when someone keeps hammering on something, that’s actually a sign,” Lyra scoffed.

“He gives you the knife, shows you the way, then throws in, ‘Hey, I never told you to do it, acting all squeaky clean,” Lyra said.

Lina finally got it, her face darkening. “But we don’t have any proof.”

“Who cares if we don’t have proof? I’m the Hunter here, do I need evidence to take someone out?” Lyra said, her voice cold and dismissive.

“Lyra couldn’t care less. She had never liked Alex anyway. It was strange: after so long in the game, she still hadn’t run into him once.

Once the Battle Royale location map appeared, she was determined to go find him and see what happened.”

“Lina, did you finish your mission?” Lyra asked, switching topics.

Lina gave a small smile. “Yeah, I got five. That’s enough. I’m not planning to kill anyone else.”

“Alright,” Lyra said, striding over to Jung-hoo.

Jung-hoo saw her coming and started struggling desperately. “Please, don’t kill me! I’ll tell you anything you want!”

No one paid him any attention.

“There are only four safe zones left in Hanmark. Someone already died this round. If I die too, there’ll only be two left! We’re from the same country, don’t kill me, please… I’m begging you!” Jung-hoo pleaded, his voice shaking with fear.

Lyra crouched down. She had no idea what he was babbling about. Her fist clenched tight.

A sharp click.

The tip of the awl plunged into the side of his neck.

[Hanmarkian player Jung-hoo has been captured and declared dead.]

[Kill count: 4.]

Lyra shook the blood off her hand and stood up.

Over the next few minutes, everyone started showing up one after another.

Lydia was the first to arrive, her Stellar Hammer slung over her shoulder. She burst through the door and called out, “Lya

Sergei came in right after, the scratches on his face already scabbing over.
