Hide and Seek: The Mad Girl Sees All novel Chapter 159

Chapter 159

Lyra rolled her eyes.

Lyra thought, ‘No difference? There’s a huge difference!”

She killed Blake, who was hunting Lil Lily with a crossbow, and Jung-hoo, who was charging at Lil Lily with a Soul Lock Card and a knife.

But Alex pushed someone who was in no danger, just to get them killed! She saw it with her own eyes when she was a cat. Calling it “taking a hit” was giving him way too much credit.

It wasn’t some life-or-death choice, and it wasn’t like he had no other option. They were both hiding just fine, and he shoved the player next to him out to distract the cat monsters, then quietly grabbed a treasure chest for himself.

Everyone knew that during the Treasure Chest Rain in the Midnight Mall mission, there were tons of chests dropped, and it lasted for ages. Getting a chest was no big deal.

“We’re not the same,” Lyra said, no longer bothering to argue with him. They walked different paths, so there was no point in talking further.

Her gaze shifted to the countdown on the wall.

[Hiding Time Countdown: 00:24:09]

In four minutes, the room will turn upside down.

Lyra’s heart skipped a beat. She thought, ‘Wait, that’s not right!”

The Checkmate Card’s immobilization effect lasted ten minutes, and the room flipped every ten minutes as well. But since the Checkmate Card was activated after the last flip started, the room would flip before the immobilization ended.

And the flip would scatter everyone. She and Lil Lily had tried all sorts of tricks before, no matter what they did, the flip always separated them.

Which meant that in four minutes, she and Alex would be forced apart.

Alex glanced at the countdown. Pain twisted his forced smile, but relief flickered in his eyes. He thought, Just survive four minutes. I still need to keep Lyra’s attention off me.’

“Lyra, I… Alex started, trying to explain.

“Clara, Lyra called out.

“Yes,” Clara answered.

“Use your soul power to cover the poisoned needle and toss it at him. Finish him off,” Lyra ordered.

Clara couldn’t get her soul power close to Alex, but since the poisoned needle was a real object, she could use her soul power as a force to launch it, turning the needle into a deadly projectile.

Clara, without hesitation, extended her soul power, wrapped it around the poisoned needle lodged in the wall, and yanked it free.

Alex’s face went pale. “Wait!”

“Lyra, I have information that’s worth more than my life,” he blurted out.

The poisoned needle hovered in Clara’s grasp. She looked over at Lyra, but since Lyra hadn’t told her to go ahead, Clara simply waited.

Alex took a shaky breath, sweat pouring down his forehead, but he didn’t dare stop. He quickly dangled a lure. “Remember the Fate Mirror? I used it before and asked how to completely finish the game.”

Lyra’s eyebrows twitched.

Alex watched her reaction closely and continued, “If you spare me this round, I’ll give you the Fate Mirror’s answer”

“That’s a pretty good deal, isn’t it?” he added.

His voice sped up. “You can kill me next round. Just let me walk this round, and you’ll get the answer to how the game ends.”

Lyra blinked. She was curious, sure, but not enough to let him walk away. But the ghostly Teacher Lawson from the asyluny had once taught her, “All’s fair in war and deception.”

“Alright,” Lyra said. “Tell me, and I won’t kill you this round.”

Alex’s shoulders relaxed a bit, but he wasn’t stupid. He quickly added, “You have to promise she won’t do anything either.” He pointed at Clara.

“Alright, Clara won’t do anything either,” Lyra said.

“Lyra, I trust you. As long as you…” Alex started.

“Quit wasting my time!” Lyra’s voice went icy. “If you keep messing around, Clara’s gonna stick you first. I don’t even care about your info anymore.”

Alex’s words died in his throat.

He glanced at the countdown: 00:22:31. There were only two and a half minutes left. He couldn’t hold out that long. Lyra wouldn’t give him that much time.

“The Fate Mirror told me…” Alex began, his voice dropping to a whisper.

“The game will only end when there are only three nations left,” Alex continued in a low voice.

Lyra blinked in surprise. “Three nations?”

“That’s right,” Alex said, staring at her. “When only three nations are left standing, the game stops.”

Alex was lying. The Fate Mirror had said the game would end only when one nation remained. He wondered: if Lyra thought only three nations could survive, would she turn on allies and send other nations to die too?

After all, this really was a kill-or-be-killed game.

Lyra lowered her eyes, staying silent. Three nations. Right now, there were still 43 nations left in the world, and a lot of people had already died this round. After this, the number would drop even more.

“Why does the game even do this?” Lyra asked.

Alex shook his head. “Beats me.”

“So what happens after there are only three nations left?” Lyra pressed.

“I don’t know,” Alex replied.

“Who came up with this game? Was it aliens? Or some other weird supernatural crap?” Lyra asked.

Chapter 159

“No idea. The Fate Mirror only answered one question before it shattered,” Alex said, acting casual with a shrug. As for anything else, since the Fate Mirror didn’t tell him, he wasn’t about to give it away for free.

Lyra nodded, not pressing further. She glanced at the countdown on the wall.

00:20:47.

“Clara, Lyra called out.

“Yes?” Clara replied.

“Let Amon kill him,” Lyra ordered.

Alex’s face froze.

“You promised me!” Alex yelled, the pain making his voice sharp and blood trickle from his mouth. “You said you wouldnt kill me this round!”

Lyra gave him an innocent look. “I didn’t kill you.”

“Clara didn’t do it either,” she said.

From the shadows in the corner of the room, another soul materialized, Amon..

“Amon did it,” Lyra said, her tone innocent.

Alex’s eyes went wide, his lips twitching as a strangled, bitter laugh escaped him, full of disbelief and fury. He thought, ‘I never should’ve trusted Lyra’s word.

Clara let go of the poisoned needle with her soul power, and Amon snatched it. With a surge of soul power, he hurled the needle straight at Alex.

Thunk.

The poisoned needle buried itself in his neck.

Alex’s body jerked as the poison spread lightning-fast. His face went from red to blue, and his arms and legs locked up.

His eyes were still locked on Lyra as he forced out his last words.

“Lyra… it’s kill or be killed between us,” Alex rasped.

“Maybe in the next life,” Lyra replied.
