Hide and Seek: The Mad Girl Sees All novel Chapter 171

Chapter 171

Zoe held onto Nancy’s arm. “How are you feeling now?”

Nancy’s shoulders rose and fell a little faster. “I’m a bit tired. The Vital Flame drained me quite a bit. She glanced at the flame on her shoulder, it had gotten smaller, but thankfully, it was still burning.

“Can you keep it going?” Zoe asked.

“Yeah, I can,” Nancy replied, wiping the sweat from her forehead. “But I don’t think I’ll be able to attack again for a while

Zoe nodded. “Then don’t attack anymore. Just observe for now.”

Her gaze swept over Vivian and Toni. “Once each of you four has killed one, I’ll send you out.”

“Okay.” Nancy nodded.

Jane drifted forward, stopped above the Wraith’s body, and spread her soul perception.

“It’s dead,” Jane said, turning to Lyra and Zoe. “Completely dead. The energy core in its brain was destroyed by the Vital Flame’s engulfing burn.”

The whole team fell silent for a moment.

Jane spoke again, her voice a little louder than before. “The Wraith is really dead.”

Everyone snapped out of it, and several souls flickered in place.

Clara drifted over to Nancy. “You did what no one else could.”

Zoe was practically buzzing with excitement. She knew exactly what this meant, if before, they had to rely on those ten card spirits to wipe out Wraiths, now it meant regular people could take down Wraiths and reclaim what was lost!

Ten souls fighting against all the invasion zones in the country was barely a drop in the bucket, but if everyone joined the fight, it’d be a spark that could ignite a wildfire across the land!

Lyra couldn’t help but gush, “Nancy, you’re so clever! You’re about to shake up the Command Center! Big Sis Lana is going to be thrilled when she finds out!”

Claire and Vivian had just come over to call the souls over to absorb energy, but when they heard what happened, they instinctively glanced at the Wraiths they’d crippled. They exchanged a knowing glance before turning to Zoe, determination shining in their eyes.

Claire spoke up. “Captain, I still have some strength left.”

Vivian quickly added, “Me too. I want to try killing a Wraith for real.”/

Zoe frowned. “No.”

“Do you know the price of burning yourself out? If you collapse here and your Vital Flame goes out, you could die.

“Nancy already proved it works. There will be plenty of chances later.”

Claire’s fingers curled, and Vivian stayed quiet, but their eyes lingered on the Wraiths, they couldn’t hide their disappointment.

Toni stood off to the side, watching everything play out. She felt secretly relieved she hadn’t had her turn yet, when her chance came, maybe she could try her hand at it too.

Jane didn’t give them time to dwell on it. She drifted over to the two crippled Wraiths and absorbed every last bit of their

energy.

After cleaning up the area, they kept moving forward. It wasn’t long before they heard some noise in the distance.

Zoe heard the sound and turned to Lyra. “Are they coming?”

“Probably called in by those three Wraiths from earlier. Everyone, get ready,” Lyra replied.

Claire checked her energy carefully and said, “Captain, I think I can still seriously injure one more Wraith.”

Vivian straightened up. “Same here. I didn’t manage to kill the last one, but I’m still feeling pretty good.”

Zoe thought for a moment. “Alright.”

She looked at the Wraiths that had already appeared ahead. “Each of you pick one of these three. Leave the rest to the souls.”

The three of them sprang into action.

Claire headed for the leftmost target.

Vivian and Toni went for the middle and right ones, respectively.

The Wraiths charged in fast, and Clara and Ivana were already intercepting them.

Toni stepped up to meet the Wraith head-on, took a deep breath, gathered Vital Flame in her palm, and launched a fireball straight at it.

The fireball blasted a hole through the Wraith’s head, and it let out an ear-splitting screech before spinning around and trying to bolt.

As Toni watched the Wraith twist to escape, the memory of Nancy taking down a Wraith flashed before her eyes, along with the thought that had been nagging at her during training.

She glanced at Nancy, who was resting by Zoe’s side, the flame still burning on her shoulder.

Toni didn’t hesitate. She reached for her sidearm and pulled it out.

Zoe frowned. Guns were supposed to be useless against Wraiths, it was right there in the instructions. Still, she kept quiet and didn’t stop Toni.

Lyra’s eyes popped open, she could see Toni channeling her Vital Flame.

Even with the gun in her hand, the flame in Toni’s palm stayed strong, moving with her thoughts and gathering toward the barrel. She was trying to attach the Vital Flame to the bullet!

Toni took a deep breath, chambered a round, and leveled her gun at the Wraith trying to make its escape.

Bang!

As the shot rang out, a wisp of flame clung to the bullet as it shot out, but the flame fizzled out midair, long before the bullet could hit the Wraith.

The bullet punched right through the Wraith’s chest, but it didn’t even react, just kept on running.

Toni’s face fell. She shifted her grip, itching to give it another shot, but the Wraith was already out of range.

“Clara, bring that Wraith back!” Lyra called out, her voice brimming with excitement.
