The tentacles were severed, but even more burst out from the neck stump, writhing one after another and lunging for Jane.

Jane wrapped the Wraith’s head in her soul power and retreated, dragging it over thirty feet away.

The three pupils on the head suddenly flared to life, and three beams shot straight at Jane. Jane’s heart skipped a beat. Wait. the head’s alive too?’

She dodged to the side, avoiding the attack.

“Jane!” Ivana shouted.

“I’m fine!” Jane called back, holding the head even farther away. The three eyes started to glow again, but Jane wasn’t about 6 let it try anything. She tightened her soul power around it.

With a loud crack, she crushed the Wraith’s head. The grayish-white shell shattered, black fragments flying everywhere, and the three eyeballs rolled away in different directions.

“Is it done?” Ivana called out.

Jane reached out with her soul perception to scan the shattered head, and her face suddenly changed. “Crap!”

She raised her voice. “Its core energy isn’t in the head!”

‘Not in the head?’ Lyra thought, stunned. “It’s still alive?” she asked.

She glanced at the headless body. The tentacles at the neck stump had stopped reaching out and were now bunching up, twisting around each other like they were growing something.

“It’s growing a new head!” Ivana shouted.

Lyra watched as the tips of the tentacles swelled, black flesh coalescing together, and the grayish-white shell began to cover it, slowly spreading upward bit by bit.

A new head was taking shape.

“It can regrow its head?!” Lyra stepped back, gripping Wraithslayer tightly in front of her, ready for anything.

Zoe had been standing on the sidelines the whole time, her camera trained on the Wraith’s body without pause. She’d watched the entire fight from start to finish, not missing a single detail.

“Try its heart!” Zoe called out urgently.

“The shell on its chest is the thickest and strongest part of its body. That’s the spot it’s most afraid of getting hit!” Zoe said urgently.

Lyra’s eyes lit up. “Got it! Aim for the chest!” She had to hit it before the new head finished growing.

Lyra and the eight souls charged at the Wraith again. The Wraith’s arms flailed wildly, shooting bone spikes in every direction, completely at random. Lyra dodged one spike, but before she could get close, another came flying at her.

“Lyra, back off! We’ve got this!” Jane called out. They were souls, so those bone spikes couldn’t hurt them.

Jane took the lead, her soul power blasting straight into the Wraith’s chest. The instant she made contact, she immediately felt the resistance, it was at least twice as thick as the shell on its head, maybe even more.

Jane’s heart leapt with excitement. The thicker the defense, the more it meant Zoe’s guess was spot on.

Chapter 182

“Here! This is it!” Jane shouted.

She cranked up the power, focusing her soul power into a single point and boring into the Wraith’s chest like a power drill. Ivana struck from the back.

Crack!

A jagged split ripped through the monster’s chest shell.

The remaining souls rushed in. Eight bursts of soul power forced into the crack and pulled apart. The Wraith’s chest shell tore open, exposing black tentacles that writhed desperately to seal the breach.

Jane peered through the opening with her soul perception and spotted a powerful energy core buried deep within the writhing tentacles.

“Found it!” Jane shouted.

Without a second thought, she sent her soul power surging through the mass of tentacles, pierced right into the energy core. and started draining it dry.

“AAAH!” This time, it wasn’t a roar, it was a full-on scream of pain.

The Wraith thrashed desperately, its limbs flailing everywhere. The eyes on its half-formed head never even opened, they just caved in as the energy drained away. The rest of the souls held it down, making sure it couldn’t get away.

Jane focused all her attention on draining its energy, pulling it out bit by bit. With every bit she drained, the Wraith’s struggles faded a little more.

Soon, its screams went from sharp to raspy, and its movements slowed to a crawl.

Once Jane had drained every last bit of energy, she pulled back, and the other souls let go of their hold.

Thud!

The Wraith collapsed to the ground. The half-formed lump of flesh on its neck stopped growing, the tentacles shriveled up one by one, and the grayish-white shell started to darken, cracks spreading from its chest all over its body.

“It’s dead,” Jane said, glancing at Lyra.

Lyra and Zoe walked over together.

Lyra crouched down, poking the hole in the Wraith’s chest with the tip of Wraithslayer. “Jane, how does its energy compare to the ones we’ve fought before?”

Jane’s soul form was noticeably brighter than before the fight. “It’s way more concentrated, and there’s a ton of it. This one’s worth at least fifty of the old ones.”

“But it’s harder to kill, Jane said, glancing at the shell fragments. “The shell is tough, the core is deep, and with those three eyes, without the weak spot, hacking off its head all day wouldn’t kill it.”

“So, what about now?” Lyra stood up. “If you had to fight it one-on-one, who’d win?”

Jane paused, then grinned. “I’d win. Now that we know its weak spot’s in the chest, I can just focus my attacks there and finish it off.”

Lyra turned to the other souls. “What about you guys?”

Ivana raised her hand. “I could take it down myself. As long as I stay clear of those eyes, those bone spikes won’t hit us anyway.”

Sunhwa nodded. “The defense is thicker than before, but now that we know where to hit, it’ll just take a bit longer to break through.”

The other souls nodded in agreement. “We could also attack from behind. It can’t move as fast as we can.”

Lyra released the two souls she’d sealed into the cards earlier. Clara was one of them, and the other soul had part of its form missing.

“How are you two holding up?” Lyra asked.

Clara shook her head. “Not so good. That eye beam hit me and actually damaged my soul power itself.”

The other soul chimed in, “We’ll have to take it slow, or maybe absorb some Wraith energy to fix ourselves up.”
