Anya continued, “How could you actually think Elian would want a child with you?
“You’re just a nobody from the lower class. Fancy title? A guiding light, they say. But let’s call a spade a spade -you’re just a lousy teacher!
“What a joke. Elian talking about wanting a baby with you was just a game. Only a well-bred woman like me is fit to bear his children.”
Yeah. Anya shed her veneer of politeness in the empty café, heaping humiliation, mockery, and insults upon her.
Only two waitresses were present, stunned by Anya’s words.
Liana listened quietly, then remained silent for a long time.
Anya almost thought Liana was speechless from the humiliation. She finally added, coolly, “I’m not trying to insult you. I’m just telling you the truth.”
“The truth is that the lawful wife being pregnant has upset the ‘well-bred’ other woman.”
Liana met her gaze squarely, her voice steady.
“What?”
Hearing “other woman,” Anya instinctively glanced at the waitresses behind the counter, then retorted, “What are you talking about? Who’s the other woman?”
“Who else? Isn’t it obvious?”
Liana lightly touched the ring on her finger, her sharp eyes watching the kaleidoscope of ugly emotions flicker across Anya’s face.
Seeing the ring, Anya flushed with anger and shame. Bu remembering her status, she forcefully swallowed her pride. “Don’t flaunt your ‘lawful wife’ status at me. The fact that Elian wants you to terminate the pregnancy proves your time is up.”
“At least I was his first, properly married wife.”
Liana retorted, holding her ground.
Yet when she saw the box of abortion pills, her heart felt carved out, even as her mind became strangely clear.
“What good is that? You couldn’t even manage to have a child.”
Anya finished, shot her a venomous glare, and stood to leave.
Liana remained sitting there.
She was only pretending to be calm.
Abortion pills from Elian?
She didn’t believe it.

Chapter 11 You’re Just a Nobody
What kind of man gives his wife abortion pills?
It took Liana a long time to regain composure. She couldn’t even breathe steadily.
But she had to endure.
She had to pull out her phone and dial Elian’s number. He answered after a few rings.
“What is it?”
His icy voice immediately seeped into her bloodstream, making the hairs on her skin stand on end.
“Did you send Anya to see me and give me―”

“I’m on my way to the airport. Business trip for a week. nya speaks for me. You don’t need to report anything she discusses with you from now on.”
Elian’s tone was flat, leaving no room for doubt.
Liana suddenly found she had no more questions.
Nor did she need any.
“Got it. Goodbye.”
Her heart shattered, but her voice was quiet and calm.
Even her tears seemed to have dried up.
The pain was intense. Sometimes a dull ache, sometimes sharp, as if pierced by a thousand arrows.
She paid and walked out of the café, not even sure how he made it back to campus.
Lily and Quentin were already in the office. Seeing her enter, Lily immediately stood up. “You look terrible. What’s wrong?”
Liana couldn’t speak. The moment Lily reached out to support her, she almost collapsed, barely managing to lean on her friend.
“What on earth is going on? Say something!”
Lily was frantic. The old Liana, despite growing up in a single-parent home, had been happy.
Ever since Elian returned from that last trip, she hadn’t seemed happy at all.
“It hurts, Lily. It hurts so much.”
Liana’s vision swam, dotted with specks of light. She mumbled the words before darkness threatened to claim her.
“Did that bastard and bitch hook up behind your back again? Even if they did, it doesn’t matter! We’ll just get a divorce! There are plenty more fish in the sea-don’t get hung up on him.”
Lily half-carried, half-dragged her to the sofa, wiping her tears as she tried to comfort her.

“I came to resign.”
Liana’s vision was dimming, but she hadn’t forgotten her purpose.
“Resign? Why?”
“I’m leaving.”
A sudden wave of sadness hit Liana. Here, she had friends like Lily. After leaving, she’d truly have nothing.
“Leaving? Where will you go?”
Lily asked, worried. In this state, Liana looked like she’d collapse after a few steps.
For a moment, Liana felt numb. Then a crushing sense of hopelessness set in. Yes. The world is vast. Where does a little nobody like me go?
He said Anya spoke for him.
He…
Quentin returned from helping at the admissions office Seeing Liana’s state, he approached with concern. “What happened?”
“She says she’s resigning. That she’s leaving.”
Lily looked at Quentin helplessly.
Quentin’s brows drew together slightly. “When there’s a problem, you solve it. Don’t run away from it.”

Chapter 12 The Final Goodbye

Four in the afternoon, at the law firm, Nathan checked his watch for the third or fourth time. He shook his head and laughed bitterly, “She’s playing me? Damn it.”
He figured she was upset about him drafting the divorce papers for Elian, so she came to mess with him. And he actually fell for it.
Looking at the freshly printed divorce agreement on his desk, he picked it up and tossed it into the trash
can.
Just as the papers hit the bottom, Liana arrived.
Nathan spotted her silhouette through the glass. His brows furrowed in annoyance. He had to fish the documents back out of the trash, cursing under his breath.
Liana stood outside, knocking.
Nathan’s expression was grim. “Come in.”
Liana opened the door. “I’m here to sign.”
“Huh. Go ahead, then.”
Nathan saw her red, swollen eyes but ignored them. He opened the file and placed his pen on it.
Seeing he was prepared, Liana thought this was for the best-a clean, quick end. She didn’t want to wait
anymore.
But as she stepped forward to sign, Nathan suddenly pressed his hand over the document. He stared at her. “What game are you playing?”
“Just ending a marriage that was never really mine.” Liana’s voice was calm.
Her signature was gentle yet firm, written with care.
Nathan watched her sign, his frown deepening.
“Thank you for your work. If there’s a legal fee, please bill Elian. I don’t have much money,” Liana said, her fingers lightly touching the wedding ring on her finger.
“Could you also return this ring to him for me?”
A sharp pain stabbed her heart, but she twisted the ring slid it off her trembling finger, and placed it gently on the agreement.
Nathan was completely dumbfounded. She’s serious?
He stared at her every move, disbelief all over his face, then couldn’t hold back. “Why?”
“Why what?”
Liana’s mind suddenly went blank.
Once the papers were signed and the ring returned, the were over.
