Chapter 111 Theo’s Nanny

“I’m sorry,” Liana said.

Back then, if there had been any other way, she wouldn’t have smashed his head.

But Elian replied, “If anyone should be apologizing, it should be me, for forcing myself on my own wife.”

“You were under the influence of the drugs.”

Liana didn’t blame him.

“Do

you

believe that even without the drugs, I’d have wanted to do that to you?” he murmured.

The conversation was abruptly ended by him.

“Ever since our first time together, I couldn’t stop thinking about it. Even on business trips, I’d lie awake at night… If I couldn’t hear your voice…”

Elian turned his gaze toward her, each word more sincere than the last.

The long, quiet corridor suddenly felt unnervingly still, leaving her at a loss.

He hadn’t planned on saying these things to her, on voicing his true thoughts.

Their relationship had always been restrained, with few words spoken even in intimate

moments.

Liana didn’t say much more. She realized she had already, unintentionally, tucked away their good days like precious secrets.

She wouldn’t take them out to reminisce easily, but those days she once believed were filled with deep love would remain the most beautiful part of her married life.

“Liana.”

“Hmm?”

She responded instinctively, turning to meet his

eyes.

His deep eyes easily captured her gaze. He didn’t say another word, just looked at her quietly.

Soon, Liana felt her heart flutter under his stare. She picked up the cup of soup and continued drinking to hide her discomposure.

“Liana.”

Liana smiled helplessly and looked at him again.

Was he trying to summon her spirit or something?

Even if the night was serene, it didn’t mean he could keep calling her name like that.

He was going to coax her heart right out of her chest and make her pounce on him. And who knew which one of them would lose control then?

“If you’re tired, lean on me for a while.”

Elian patted his chest, offering.

She chuckled, lowering her head and speaking rationally, “We’re getting a divorce. I won’t let myself lean into your arms again.”

Elian smiled but didn’t argue.

His chest was ready; whether she came to it was her choice.

After finishing the soup, Liana felt warmer. She glanced toward the ICU doors, then back at him. “Are you staying?”

“You’re staying. As Grandma’s grandson, how could I leave?” he countered.

“I’m staying out of a sense of guilt.”

She wanted to be there the moment Rosalind woke up, to apologize to her properly.

Elian didn’t reply, just watched quietly as she screwed the lid back onto the thermos.

She kept holding it, and an untimely memory from last night surfaced-Anya’s words, claiming he knew Theo wasn’t his child but still chose to take responsibility.

Liana couldn’t help but look at him, wanting to ask if it was true, but the words stuck in her throat.

Just then, Elian’s phone rang. He glanced at it and told her before answering, “It’s Theo.”

Liana suppressed a sigh and instinctively looked at his phone.

It was a video call.

As she wondered why Theo was still awake so late, his hand cupped the back of her head, gently drawing her against his chest.

Finished

Her mind went momentarily blank, but she could see the screen clearly.

“Elian, Theo wants to say goodnight before sleeping.”

“Okay.”

Elian responded gently. As Theo’s face filled the screen, he said softly, “Theo, say hello to Liana.”

“Ma’am.”

Theo, seeing Liana, pressed his face close to the screen, delighted.

Liana’s mind was buzzing. That voice calling “Elian”-where had she heard it before? She couldn’t place it immediately.

“Aren’t you going to say hi to Theo? He likes you a lot.”

Elian’s voice sounded above her head.

Liana instinctively raised her hand in a little wave. “Hi, Theo.”

“Ma’am, hug.”

Theo’s voice was soft, sweet, and full of longing.

“Daddy will pick you up first thing in the morning, and then she can give you a hug. But first, you need to go to sleep, okay?”
