Chapter 116 Out of Town
Lucas stood outside the car.

Through the open classroom windows, he heard students calling his boss an “old geezer.” He couldn’t help leaning in and whispering to Elian, who was looking at his phone, “Mr. Locke, they’re saying you’re an old man.”
“I’m not deaf.”
Elian’s reply was curt, laced with irritation.
Those brats had voices like foghorns, saying whatever popped into their clueless heads.
The more he thought about it, the angrier he got. This woman wants to toss me aside? Fine. I’ll give her something to remember.
For the entire next hour, Elian stood right outside Liana’s classroom.
Midway through, Liana stepped out for a moment. “Don’t you have anything better to do?” she whispered.
“I did have an important board meeting. But since you’re so eager to sever our marital ties, I had to reschedule.”
He shot her a cold glance, his tone reminding her of the cost.
Liana fell silent.
She didn’t feel guilty. She just hoped he would actually follow through this time.
Other teachers were starting to peek from around corners. Liana quickly went back inside, walked to the windows, and drew all the blinds before turning on the lights.
Instant quiet.
The students were a little afraid of her. Order was quickly restored.
Lily, Quentin, and Chloe stood further down the hallway, watching Elian wait for Liana.
“Elian like this really doesn’t look like a jerk,” Lily sighed, staring at him.
“No, he looks like a man who’s fallen hard,” Chloe agreed.
Quentin said nothing. He knew nine out of ten women would fall for a man like Elian.

He thought about Liana.

She was always so calm and level-headed. She knew how selfish men like that could be. Would she really leave?
Elian, tired of looking at his phone, glanced up and saw the three of them. He gave Lily a slight smile, but his gaze turned sharp when it landed on Quentin.
He didn’t know how long Quentin had liked Liana. Didn’t matter. Liking her wasn’t allowed.
He walked over. “Liana’s birthday is coming up. I’d like to invite you three to her party. Would you honor us?”
“Us? Will Officer Kane be there?” Chloe asked, barely containing her excitement, her mind clearly on the handsome police officer.
Elian smiled. “He’ll be there.”
“Then thank you for the invitation, Mr. Locke,” Lily said, also pleased. A man in uniform really is something else.
Elian then looked at Quentin. “Will you be available, Mr. Conrad?”
“I will.”
Quentin agreed. He just wanted to wish Liana a happy birthday.
Satisfied, Elian’s phone rang. He answered immediately, saying to the caller, “One moment.”
He then turned back to Quentin. “Could you please let my wife know I’ve been called out of town on business? I’ll contact her when I’m back.”
“Of course.”
Quentin remained composed.
Lily and Chloe, however, looked thoroughly confused.
Elian walked away, phone to his ear. The three of them remained in the hallway, watching his retreating figure.
Yeah, you had to admit-rich people had a certain aura.
A knot tightened in her heart. She decided then and there to stop seeing Xander.
Her parents worked stable government jobs, but to old-money families like his, they were insignificant.

Seeing how much Liana had struggled in her marriage made Lily determined not to throw herself at another man from that elite world.
Find someone simple. Live a simple life.
After class, Liana saw the three of them standing there, looking lost. Elian was nowhere in sight. “Did you see Elian?” she asked, walking over.
“He said he had to go out of town on business. He’ll contact you when he’s back,” Quentin relayed.
Liana was speechless.
Weren’t we going to the courthouse? What’s this “out of town” business?
As it turned out, the school had organized a last-minute professional development trip for fifteen teachers that afternoon, and she was on the list.
The divorce would have to wait.
Before heading out of town, she stopped by the hospital to say goodbye to Rosalind.
She didn’t expect to run into Anya and Helena in the main lobby.
