Chapter 127 Why Should I Give You a Divorce?
“Ma’am, up.”
Theo wanted Liana to pick him up.
Liana wanted to, too, but today she suddenly couldn’t lift a boy who wasn’t even three.

“Just pick him up and walk around a bit. It’ll help him sleep, and the fever will break faster,” Elian’s voice cut in.
It sounded like the sooner she soothed him, the sooner they’d get divorced.
Liana tried to lift him, but her arms truly felt like lead.
She cursed herself for being useless, then looked at Elian. “I’m not refusing to hold him. I’m just weak today.”
She didn’t want to reveal her condition, but she needed some excuse.
“So, scraping together three million really took it out of you,” Elian stated coldly, delivering his verdict.
“What?”
“Though I suppose you are worth three million for a night.”
He continued, his tone dripping with disdain.
Liana stared at him, disbelief washing over her. Who does he think I am?
“To think you’d rush to offer yourself to another man before we’re even divorced, Liana. What kind of fool do you take me for?”
His gaze grew sharper, his voice tight with a restrained anger that hadn’t been there a moment
ago.
“Pot calling the kettle black. Neither of us has the right to look down on the other.”
Thinking of the “Locke Residence” plaque at the gate, Liana suddenly couldn’t muster the energy to explain.
“Say that again.”
“Do
you really still think you can play the loyal, devoted husband? I saw Anya in your robe, in your guest room, with my own eyes that night.”

“You’d better have caught me in the act. Anything less is just hearsay,” Elian shot back angrily before turning to leave.
Theo, frightened by the raised voices, buried himself more tightly against Liana. Unprepared for the sudden shift in weight, Liana lost her balance and sat down hard on the floor.
Seeing her on the ground, Theo, fever-weary but thinking it was a game, simply clung to her as they sat there together.
After Elian stormed off, the housekeeper hurried over. “Mrs. Locke, let me help you up. Theo is getting a bit heavy now.”
Having overheard their argument, she gently lifted Theo from Liana’s arms, settled him in his bed, and then turned to help Liana up.
“Thank you,” Liana murmured, leaning against the doorframe once she was standing.
She disliked everything about this house.
“Mrs. Locke, is there perhaps some misunderstanding with Mr. Locke? Apart from when he’s with Theo, he’s never been in a room alone with Ms. Forrest,” the housekeeper offered.
She knew Elian was married and had seen no signs of him rekindling things with Anya.
Liana gave a faint, humorless smile. “I’ve seen it.”
The housekeeper was at a loss for words.
Just then, they heard Elian’s voice from the direction of the study-he was on a call.
“Is Anya not here?”
“Ms. Forrest hasn’t come for a long time. Mr. Locke forbade her from visiting again,” the housekeeper replied promptly.
Puzzled but not pausing, Liana walked toward the study.
He was indeed on the phone. At the sound of her knock, he cast a cold glance at the door. “We’ll talk later,” he said into the receiver and hung up.
“What now?” he asked, facing her.
“The divorce. Let’s go.”
“I said, after Theo’s fever breaks.”

“It’s just a fever. The divorce won’t take long.”

“Just a fever? Liana, do you have a heart? That boy adores you. How can you be so cold?”
Elian strode toward her, grabbing her arm as he accused her.
“I think I’ve been more than decent to him. All I want now is for you to grant me the divorce.”
Liana endured his grip, which felt like it could crush bone, and met his gaze with icy resolve.
He met her ice-cold eyes, then forced out a low, tight plea. “Tell me you didn’t sleep with that man last night.”
“Elian, come with me to get the divorce. Please.”
She held his gaze, repeating only her demand.
“Answer me-

“Come with me to get the divorce.”
Every time he spoke, she immediately countered with her own plea.
She needed the divorce.
If they didn’t finalize it soon, she might not be able to hide her secret much longer.
Thank God it was winter, with its heavier, looser clothing. Otherwise…
She stared him down.
