“Mrs. Locke,” he continued, his voice cool and sharp as he watched Liana and Quentin slowly separate. “I’ve decided. I agree to the divorce.”
He finished, turned, and walked away.
Once he was gone, Quentin immediately looked at Liana. “That was my fault, I was too impulsive. Should you go after him and explain?”
“Mr. Conrad, please don’t waste your time on me.”
Liana shook her head, refusing him.
Yes, she’d probably guessed Quentin’s feelings. She had to make herself clear.
“I see. Then let’s just be colleagues.”
Quentin nodded after hearing her, smiled, and left.
That wasn’t what he truly wanted. He was a year ahead of her, but ever since meeting her at the same school, he hadn’t been able to control his heart.
But now wasn’t the time to pursue her. Quentin wisely let go, for the moment.
After they both left, Liana went back to the kitchen.
She picked up the slightly burnt toast, took a couple of bites, and remembered his words. Mrs. Locke, I agree to the divorce.
Her eyes grew warm, but she couldn’t help smiling.
Good.
So all it took to get a divorce was letting another man hug her? She should have done that sooner.
The toast was hard to swallow. She chewed a couple of mouthfuls, put it down, washed up, and got ready for
work.
It was early fall. After washing up, she changed into a clean white short-sleeved blouse and a gray knee- length skirt. As she grabbed her bag, checking she hadn forgotten anything on her way out, she heard noises outside.
Lots of noise.
She opened the door. At a glance, several police officers stood outside, looking back at her.
Elian’s suit jacket was hanging from her doorknob. He stood leaning against the wall nearby. At the door open, his sharp gaze turned to her.
Liana’s heart stopped. She couldn’t move.
She hadn’t expected him to come back, and with so many police officers.
So what, getting hugged meant she’d be arrested?
“Is something wrong?” she asked cautiously.

“You must be Elian’s wife, right? He dragged me here to hold me accountable. Failing to protect public safety, letting you get scared.”
The man speaking wore a different uniform from the others, likely a higher rank. He looked about thirty, young and gentlemanly.
Liana realized they were here about last night’s broken window. She quickly explained, “I already reported it last night. Thank you for your trouble.”
“Mind if we take another look inside?”
