The moment she turned away, her wrist was caught.
Swiftly, she was pinned against the wall.

She looked up at him reflexively. At the same time, Elian cupped her chin, gently tilting her face up. “You cried the medicine off. I’ll put more on.”
“No. We should just go our separate ways now,” Liana objected, turning her face away.
She wanted distance, but Elian’s body held her in place, his deep eyes fixed on her.
“Liana,” he asked, his voice low, “do you really want to leave me?”
“Yes,” she murmured, eyes downcast.
Elian gently turned her face back to him, forcing her to meet his gaze.
“But I don’t.”
His voice was husky. Then, he leaned forward, resting his forehead gently against hers.
In that moment, he was consumed by regret.
Liana could feel the heat radiating from his forehead.
They said he’d been running a fever since the morning after that night. Why was he still so hot?
She didn’t dare ask. She tried to push him away, but her hands had barely touched his chest when he pinned them there, unmovable.
“Elian, you can’t have two women at once,” Liana had to remind him.
The truth was, two women had gone crazy because of him.
This seemingly calm, drizzly
Mas hiding turbulent waters underneath.
He held her hand against his chest, his voice strained. “The Mrs. Locke from before would never have doubted my feelings for her.”
“If by ‘the Mrs. Locke from before’ you mean me, then I have to tell you-that woman is dead.”
A burning sensation rose in Liana’s throat as she spoke, and tears welled up anew.
“Don’t say that, Liana,” he whispered.
“You’re the one who killed her, Elian. I don’t love you anymore.”
She pushed against him with all her might.
Elian immediately tried to kiss her.
But she jerked her head away too quickly, and his lips only grazed the side of her face where the slap had landed.

A flash of something cold flickered in his eyes, but he didn’t try to kiss her again.
“We’re leaving here first,” he said abruptly.
Liana felt herself released. She watched his tall figure stride toward the door.
She stared after him, stubborn and angry.
She thought he was leaving, but he just grabbed her coat from the hook by the door and came back.
The apartment was a disaster zone. Chairs, the sofa, all sorts of knick-knacks-anything that could be smashed was.
He even stepped on a piece of broken glass on his way back.
For a split second, Liana worried he’d get hurt.
She silently chided herself for the concern as she watched him walk back to her.
He pulled her from the wall, guided her hand into the sleeve of her coat, and easily dressed her in the heavy
garment.
“Elian, we should go our separate ways. You don’t need to worry about me.”
“Not this time,” he stated, then simply scooped her up into his arms.
Liana didn’t struggle.
No strength.
Her body was wiped out.
He carried her to the entryway, set her on the shoe cabinet, picked up her high heels, and gently held her ankle to slip them on.
Liana’s heart clenched tightly.
The first time he helped her with her shoes, a silent vow of lifelong devotion took root in her heart.
Even though he was busy right after their wedding, whenever he had a free moment, he’d do all the things a boyfriend should.
Yes, he’d even hand-washed her bras and socks.
But now, as he held her ankle to put on her shoe, all she could think was that if she could do it over, she’d turn him down.
After putting on her shoes, he opened the door, picked her up again, and carried her out.
Knowing she couldn’t win against him, Liana remained quiet in his arms.
A light drizzle was falling outside. He carried her right into the rain.
It wasn’t heavy, but it was cool.
He walked quickly, yet she couldn’t help looking up at the top of his head.
