Lily listened, grinning, and nudged Liana with her elbow. “Hear that? He’ll jump off a bridge if you leave him.”

Liana gave her a helpless look.

She didn’t believe it for a second. He wouldn’t jump off a bridge over a divorce. And whatever he did after they split was none of her business.

“I’m going to wash my hands,” Liana said, looking at Thep. She got up and headed for the bathroom.

Lily knew Liana had truly given up on Elian. She was about to follow and chat when her own phone rang.

Seeing it was Xander, her face fell. She grabbed her phone and walked out. “Liana, I need to take this.”

“Okay,” Liana’s reply came from inside.

“Mrs. Locke, I need to go back and grab something. Can you stay with Theo for two more hours?”

“Sure,” Liana agreed, drying her hands as she came out.

The nanny left with her bag.

Back in the ward, Liana saw Theo glued to his cartoons. She ruffled his little head, watched with him for a bit, then said, “Theo, want me to run you a bath?”

“Mm-hmm,” Theo agreed.

Figuring she might as well make herself useful, Liana rolled up her sleeves and went back into the bathroom.

She had just started the water when she heard a loud bang.

Theo jumped, startled. He turned and saw Anya storming into the room and immediately burst into tears.

“Ma’am! Ma’am…”

“Shut up! Call for her again and I’ll smother you!”

Anya strode over, shoved him down onto the bed, and grabbed a pillow, pressing it toward his face.

“Anya, don’t-”

“Anya, stop!”

“Get away from me!” Anya pushed her back.

“Stop.”

A sharp voice cracked from the doorway.

Anya froze instantly, her breath catching.

It sounded like… Elian.

“What is going on here?” Elian’s gaze swept over the three figures by the bed.

“If even you don’t want me anymore, if no one does, I might as well die!”

Anya threw the pillow, shoved past Liana, rounded the bed, and lunged for the window.

Liana forgot everything else. Seeing Theo struck dumb with fear, she rushed to him.

“Anya, no!”

Jett immediately chased after her, wrapping his arms around her from behind. “Even if everyone else abandons you, you still have me!”

“Let go! I don’t need you!” Anya struggled violently.

“Theo? Sweetheart, it’s over. I got you.” Liana held the trembling boy.

“What happened?” Elian stepped forward, his eyes on Theo, who was clinging to Liana as if terrified.

Liana held Theo tighter and looked up at him. “She tried to smother him.”

She didn’t expect him to believe her, but she had to say it. Facts were facts.
