Chapter 189 I Trust My Wife
* Finished
Watching Anya’s theatrical display of anguish, Liana felt a wave of bleak despair, but her focus remained on soothing the little boy in her arms.
“Elian, tell Elian I didn’t try to smother Theo,” Anya pleaded, seeing Elian’s gaze fixed solemnly on Theo.
Jett felt his chest go tight for no reason.
“Yes, Elian… Anya didn’t try to smother Theo. It was… it was her.” He pointed a shaky finger at Liana. “She was angry that Theo called Anya ‘Mommy.’ She tried to mother him.”
Jett’s mind was a roaring mess, but he made his choice quickly.
Liana, remembering how Jett had tried to stop Anya from hurting Theo, had thought he possessed a shred of conscience. Turns out it was barely there.
“Ma’am, scared. Theo’s scared,” the little boy whimpered shrinking further into Liana’s embrace at the sight of Jett.
“It’s okay, sweetheart. I’m here.” Liana held him, stroking his back soothingly.
Seeing how Theo clung to Liana, Elian turned his attention back to Anya and Jett. “Both of you, leave.”
“Elian, I-”
“No! I won’t go. I just want to hear Theo call me ‘Mommy’ one more time,” Anya begged, tears flowing anew.
“Enough.” Elian’s voice was final.
“No, Elian, please-”
“You really think I’ll buy whatever you two say?”
Elian’s question hung in the air. Anya looked genuinely bewildered. “Elian, what are you talking about?”
“Don’t listen to her, Elian,” Jett jumped in, sensing danger. “She just wants to take everything away from Anya.”
“I trust my wife,” Elian stated, each word cold and clear, directed at Jett.
Liana thought she’d misheard. She looked up at him.
What did he just say? Trust his wife?
His wife… meaning me?
Since when does he trust me?
Even if…
“It was her, Elian! She’s trying to turn you against Anya” Jett felt panic rising and kept shielding Anya.
“Are you blind?” Elian cut him off coldly.
Jett was stunned into silence. Blind to what?

Chapter 189 | Trust My Wife
Finished
“I know you’re angry,” Anya said, picking herself up from the floor, her gaze on Elian full of wounded disappointment. “But you shouldn’t insult me like this. We’ve known each other for twenty-seven years.”
“Jett, let’s go.” Anya suddenly turned, leading the way ou
Before leaving. Jett couldn’t help but throw a last, warning glare at Liana.
She met it with a cold stare before looking down. She knew she was no match for these privileged heirs.
Finally, the room went quiet.
Elian sat beside her. “You okay?”
Liana didn’t answer, just glanced at him before checking Theo again.
Elian reached out and gently touched Theo’s cheek. “It’s over now.”
Theo looked at him, then buried his face back in Liana’s chest.
A flicker of deep sadness crossed Elian’s face. He sighed softly, then turned to Liana. “What are you doing here?
“Didn’t you tell me to come see Theo if I had time? Or was that just empty words?” Liana met his gaze, her question slow and deliberate. Her eyes were sharp.
“I wish you’d come every day,” he said, with startling sincerity.
Liana gave him a look of pure distrust, then lowered he head, focusing on Theo.
Once, it was he who didn’t trust her. Now, the tables had turned.
Even if he just said he trusted his wife.
Her phone rang
Elian saw it on the nightstand. She was holding Theo, so he picked it up and handed it to her.
It was Lily
Liana looked at the screen, shifted Theo to one arm, and took the phone with her free hand.
“Um… Something came up. I had to leave. You can just lead to my place later, you know the code.”
Lily sounded flustered.
“Okay,” Liana didn’t pry and agreed.
She had a hunch it was about Xander
Sometimes, the more you tried to avoid something, the more it stuck to you.
And when you finally got what you thought you wanted it didn’t feel special anymore.
Maybe love was real-but it faded fast, like a shooting sr
