Chapter 206 The Last Supper
“Okay.”
Elian immediately reached for his wallet, but a call came in.
Liana instinctively glanced over and saw “Anya” on the screen.
Elian declined the call and proceeded to pay, but Anya called again.

He answered. “Elian, I’m scared. Could you come back and stay with me?” Anya’s voice was weak and pitiful.
“Sorry, I can’t make it.”
Elian hung up as soon as he finished.
Liana helped the cashier bag the groceries, her tone flat. “You could go.”
“Tonight is our last time together. I won’t let anything interrupt it.”
He said it flatly.
Both kept their heads down, focused on their tasks-one bagging, one paying.
“Thank you, sir, ma’am. Please come again!” the cashier said cheerfully after checkout.
Elian carried the grocery bags as they walked out, a subtle, involuntary lift at the corner of his eye.
Sir and ma’am. Hmm. Guess we do look like a proper couple.
Of course, it was just supermarket policy to be friendly to every customer. And while they might look a bit like a couple, the real key was the matching wedding rings.
“Your place or mine?” Elian asked as he started the car.
The serious, focused Elian was back.
“Yours. I’m staying with Lily now; it wouldn’t be convenient.”
Liana had been about to suggest her place but remembered the renovations weren’t finished.
It had been half a month. Those people still hadn’t been caught.
Liana wasn’t holding out much hope anymore. She strongly suspected Anya was behind it, and Elian had a history of covering up Anya’s legally questionable actions towards her.
The car soon arrived at his waterfront penthouse in the southern part of the city.
Elian carried the bags, using facial recognition to enter. When his phone rang, his hands were full. “A little help?”
Liana reached for a bag, but he shifted them away. “Just get my phone, please. These are heavy.”
She didn’t believe for a second he was worried about her strength, but she still reached into his trouser pocket to fish out his phone.

Elian’s deep eyes watched her intently. Her checks flushed slightly.
Her small hand was in his pocket, separated from his skin by only two thin layers of fabric.
Elian felt an inexplicable warmth rise to his own face.
Anya. No surprise there.
Liana had expected it. She glanced at the screen, answered the call, and held it to his ear.
Elian, however, stepped back into the corner of the elevator. “Put it on speaker.”

Liana was surprised; she’d thought he wouldn’t want her to hear. But she didn’t comment, switching the
mode.
As soon as the speaker was on, Anya’s voice filled the small space.
“Elian? Are you there? The doctor says the fever has turned into pneumonia. I need to stay in the hospital I for observation for a few days.”
Anya reported her condition in a low voice.
“Then get some rest.” Elian’s reply was detached.
“Elian, I’m here all by myself. I’m scared.” Anya’s voice grew smaller.
“Hold on.. I’ll have someone contact you,” Elian said, then instructed Liana, “Hang up.”
Without hesitation, Liana ended the call.
He said, “Call Jett.”

Back at the penthouse, Elian went to the kitchen to put the groceries away. Liana took off her coat and draped it over the arm of the sofa.
The place felt different from her last visit.
Liana’s gaze landed on a small bouquet of daisies on the coffee table. She stepped closer, fingers gently brushing the delicate petals.
Elian came out of the kitchen with a glass of water. Seeing her look at the flowers, knowing she liked them, he handed her the water. “Had them delivered while we were shopping. You used to always have a vase of flowers on the table. I remember you liked this kind.”
Liana’s back was to him, and she swallowed a sudden lump in her throat. Her response, however, was flat. “I don’t like them anymore.”
Elian asked her, “What do you like now?”
Liana took the water glass, staring at the daisies. “I like divorce.”
She looked directly at him.
Elian met her gaze. In the quiet space, the tension felt like a firework had just exploded.
He smiled, “Go cook. I’ll look up if there’s a flower called ‘Divorce.”
Liana said nothing more, taking a sip of water before heading to the kitchen.
Elian didn’t follow her immediately. He sat on the sofa, his tall frame leaning forward slightly, elbows on his knees as he studied the bouquet she once loved. The warmth in his expression gradually faded.
