Chapter 209 Trapped

Elian nodded, not looking at her, simply commenting on her past behavior.

Liana couldn’t help but keep watching him. You know way too much.

“But why didn’t you continue being that calm, sensible, proper Mrs. Locke who never got jealous?”

He suddenly turned to look at her, asking this question.

“What do you mean?”

“From the beginning to the end, all you ever wanted was just a husband. As long as I performed my husbandly duties, what more could you have been dissatisfied with? You don’t even love me.”

Liana’s breath hitched.

By the time she regained her senses, realizing her expression might have faltered, she lowered her gaze. Her fingers around the wine glass tightened.

“Drink it. Finish this glass, and I’ll let you go.”

Elian poured the last of the wine into his

3wn glass. This time, the clink of their glasses was heavier, sharp

enough to seem capable of shattering something fragile

But Liana just looked at him until he met her gaze, his expression dark, and said those words.

“If you don’t drink, that means you admit you’re pregnant.”

Seeing the ruthlessness and finality in his eyes, Liana looked down at the red wine in her glass.

Maybe one glass wouldn’t hurt?

But… wait. He used my glass.

“You drank from this one.”

If he insists I drink, he’ll have to get me a new one. I can slip away while he’s gone.

“You’ve had plenty of my saliva before. One more time won’t matter.”

To her surprise, Elian just smiled, a dangerously playful look in his eyes, watching her expectantly.

“That was before. I’ll get a new one myself.”

Seeing that he wasn’t giving her an escape route, Liana decided to create one.

But the moment she tried to move, her wrist was seized in a firm grip. A wave of dizziness washed over her, and the next thing she knew, she was sitting on Elian’s solid lap.

Elian’s deep eyes were fixed directly on her. His lips parted slightly, but for a long moment, no words came

out.

Liana watched his Adam’s apple bob. She instinctively tried to lift her gaze higher, finally meeting his cold, expressionless face and those quiet, storm-gathering eyes. Within them…

Chapter 209 Trapped

Liana felt as if she were staring into the end of the world, devoid of any light.

“The day we found Theo, you called me. What did you want?” Elian asked, his tone inscrutable.

His intense stare put her on high alert. When she spoke her voice was hoarse. “I… forgot. Probably just asking when you’d be back.”

Elian gave a short laugh, his arm around her waist-noticeably less slender than before-and looked down at her abdomen.

Some girls naturally had a little tummy even when not pregnant, especially when sitting.

But Liana never did before.

She’d never managed her figure on purpose. She just didn’t eat much, probably because of her mom being sick.

Even now, with her mother gone and life seemingly back to normal, but….

Elian’s mind raced, considering her possible motives for hiding a pregnancy. His expression grew increasingly somber.

Liana felt prickly under his scrutiny and decided a quick resolution was best. “If I drink this, will you let me go?”

A flicker passed through Elian’s sharp gaze. When he looked at her again, his presence felt even more overpowering.

Yes, he was waiting.

Liana didn’t dare hesitate further. She leaned over to pick up the glass she’d just set down.

Holding her breath, she stared at the wine for a few seconds, then looked back at him. “Can I… drink it by the door?”

Elian’s hand loosened from her waist. He leaned back against the sofa, posture relaxed.

Nervous of his brooding, potentially explosive silence, Liana immediately stood up. “Goodbye.”

He didn’t move, didn’t even lift his eyes.

Seeing that he seemed truly willing to let her leave, she faised the glass to her lips as she stood.

A doctor had told her once that a little wasn’t the end of the world-just better to avoid it if she could.

“Liana.”

“Hmm?”

His voice, suddenly cold and commanding, made her reflexively look down at him.

Elian didn’t look up. He stared straight ahead, voice flat. Put it down.”

He’d stopped pressing her, just like that.

“Thank you.”
