Liana’s hands flew up to push against his chest. Elian was faster, capturing both her wrists in one hand and pinning them above her head. “Say you love me.”

“I don’t.”

The words were defiant, but the tremor at the end betrayed her.

It was like a feather brushing their hearts, sending a shared, electric jolt through them both.

“If you don’t love me,” Elian said, his dark gaze boring into hers, a low, humorless chuckle escaping him, “then I don’t have to consider what’s best for you anymore. Might as well just take what I want, hmm?”

He claimed her mouth again with a bruising kiss.

Liana turned her face away. His lips landed on the bruised skin of her neck.

The cool breath laced with alcohol sent a shiver through her. She let out a muffled, pained hum. The ache eased under that chill, and she instantly bit her lip.

Damn it. That sound had been way too suggestive.

Elian, already on edge, reacted by sucking harder on the sensitive skin. But the memory of her nearly being strangled flashed in his mind, and he gentled instantly. Instead, he placed a series of feather-light kisses along the bruise.

Liana struggled frantically, her breath coming in ragged gasps, her chest heaving.

The sight made Elian’s blood roar. He wanted nothing more than to lose himself in her right then.

“Elian… don’t.” Liana felt his decisive movements and instantly pleaded.

“Say you love me, or we go all the way.”

“You can’t do this. You signed the papers.”

  • “Signing a paper doesn’t end a marriage. And having you tonight isn’t a crime.” He sounded so damn reasonable to his own ears.

“I don’t want to. You have Anya now.”

Liana couldn’t bear it. The thought of him with Anya made the idea of this intimacy unbearable.

“Say you love me. Just say the words, and I’ll stop.”

He didn’t pause, deftly undoing the buttons of her pajama top.

Cool air hit her skin. Liana’s face flushed crimson.

Elian looked down, seeing the practical bra she wore, and let out a frustrated laugh. “Mrs. Locke, aren’t you being a bit too cautious with your own husband? Wearing a bra to bed now?”

She never used to wear one to sleep.

He’d felt her defenses the moment he walked in tonight. Everything about her screamed rejection-the prim pajamas, the hair tied back, the very air of avoidance around her.

“I just don’t want to make a mistake. And you have Anya. If you have needs, go to her.” Liana offered the reminder, her voice tight.

“Well, she just got stabbed saving Theo. You mean I should go climb into her hospital bed and use her to get off? What kind of monster would that make me?”

His words were sharp, laced with what sounded like concern for Anya.

And using me makes you a saint? Liana thought bitterly.

“Then control yourself. If Anya knew you were in bed with me right now, she’d be devastated. Wouldn’t you feel even more guilty toward her?” she shot back.

“Should I thank you for caring so much about me, Mrs. Locke?” Elian was practically grinding

his teeth.

“If you’ve come to your senses, then take your son and get out of my apartment.” Liana refused to meet his predatory gaze, her tone final.

But touching her only inflamed him further. Frustrated, he rolled off her with a rough sigh.

Feeling the weight lift, Liana tried to scramble away. Elian’s arm snaked across her chest, and in two seconds flat, she was back in his embrace.

His husky voice whispered in her ear. “Help me.”

“No. I’ve made myself clear. Think of Anya. You waited for her for two years. You love her so much. How can you be with anyone but her-”

Before she could finish, her mouth was captured again.

This time, with her neck cradled in the crook of his arm, she couldn’t even move, held fast for a
