Chapter 61 A Doctor’s Visit
Sierra kept chatting as she followed Liana into the living room.
“You got here fast, Dr. Sage,” Elian remarked, walking in from the kitchen.

“You know, for the longest time, I thought you gave me that insane discount on my apartment because of Xander. Now it clicks. You just wanted your personal doctor on speed dial,” Sierra said, giving him a sharp, knowing look.
She then turned to Liana. “Mrs. Locke, please turn around. Let me check your injury.”
Elian moved closer, waiting silently for the diagnosis.
Liana turned, a wave of awkwardness washing over her as Sierra lifted the hem of the shirt.
What she was wearing underneath was-
“These are Mr. Locke’s boxers, aren’t they?”
“Brand new. Never worn,” Liana blurted, her face burning so hot she felt it might combust.
Elian’s gaze instantly dropped to her slender legs. Sure enough, they were his.
A wave of satisfaction cut through the gloom that had hung over him all evening.
He’d once seen an ad online where a model wore her boyfriend’s boxers, claiming they were more comfortable. He’d asked Liana if she wanted to try, but she’d flatly refused. He hadn’t pushed it.
He never expected he’d see her wearing them tonight, just like that.
He stifled the urge to step nearer. I need a closer look later. Not the time.
“Ah!”
Liana gasped sharply as Sierra applied pressure,
“Look, bedroom games are one thing, but you really laid into her, didn’t you? Used, what, half your strength? She’s lucky she’s not crippled,” Sierra said, assuming Elian was the perpetrator.
Elian’s brow furrowed, but he didn’t correct her. “Is the bone damaged?”
“Probably not. Your wife must’ve dodged at the last second. But the swelling is severe. Walking tomorrow will be a challenge, and the pain will linger for at least two weeks,” Sierra concluded.

Feeling Sierra release the shirt, Liana quickly stepped aside.
Elian watched her neutral expression, his own features tightening.

Seeing Liana’s flushed cheeks and the tears of pain glistening on her lashes, Sierra added, “Eyes aren’t as good as an X-ray. You should get it checked at the hospital tomorrow to be sure.”
“Okay,” Liana agreed, then added more sincerely, “Thank you.”
Some tests involve radiation. I should avoid them if possible. She kept that thought to herself.
“Don’t mention it. Now, I smell something delicious. How about we call it even on the house call fee, and I just get a free meal?” Sierra said, noting how Elian’s eyes were glued to Liana.
Without waiting for an answer, she headed toward the dining area.
Left alone with Elian, who was still staring intently, Liana finally asked, “Why are you looking at me like that?”
The soft patter of rain against the window filled the quiet space. Under the glow of the crystal chandelier, Elian’s deep eyes were unreadable.
He spoke softly, almost to himself, “Mrs. Locke, I want to start over. To really get to know you. Would that be okay?”
The rain drummed steadily behind them. Liana was confused.
A faint, self-deprecating smile touched his lips as he simply watched her. “I don’t think I ever took the time to know you properly.”
Liana’s lips parted, but no words came.
What was there to say? What good was getting to know her now, when it was all too late?
“Hey, lovebirds! Food’s getting cold!” Sierra’s voice echoed from the dining room.
Head bowed, Liana walked past him without a word. She’d leave with Sierra later.
As she disappeared into the dining room, Elian stared at her slender, retreating back, a sudden, sharp ache piercing his chest.
He’d always thought that for adults, patience and self-control were must-haves.
He’d accepted her cautious, self-contained nature as just… her.
But seeing her grit through the pain just now, it hit him-maybe he’d been dead wrong.
