So Elian doesn’t want a divorce at all. But Liana’s so icy, so detached-I can tell she’s dying to get out of this marriage. Obviously, the return of Anya has driven a huge, uncrossable wedge between them.
“If you don’t want a divorce, then cut ties with certain people. A wife this gorgeous won’t have trouble finding admirers,” Sierra added pointedly.
“No, she won’t,” Elian agreed, his gaze on Liana.
He thought of those WhatsApp messages from Quentin.
The moon is so beautiful tonight?
Lame. Predictable.
Liana also recalled the messages Quentin had shown her-the ones Elian had deleted. But she didn’t feel like asking why. Not anymore.
After dinner, Sierra stood up. “I’ll leave you two to it. Remember to apply that anti- inflammatory cream before bed. Keep a painkiller on the nightstand in case it gets bad. And get that X-ray tomorrow.”
“Right. I’ll
go
with you,” Liana said, standing as well.
Elian, who was clearing plates, felt a bitter tang in his mouth.
Go? In this storm? Dressed like that?
She’d be snatched the second she got into a cab.
The image of her, vulnerable and cornered the last time he saved her, flashed in his mind.
“I called a lawyer about the divorce,” he said, turning. “Stay a little longer. Let me clean up, and we can talk.”
Liana was curious, but shook her head. “We can discuss it tomorrow. Or over the phone.”
Sierra, thoroughly amused now, watched the silent battle of wills.
Elian shot an annoyed look at Liana’s back, then glanced at Sierra.
“Right. I’m off. Oh, Mr. Locke, maybe tell your wife I live on the first floor?” Sierra called over her shoulder as she made a swift exit.
Liana hurried to the living room to grab her clothes and purse, plus the black heels that had

Her heart started pounding like crazy. She wanted to bolt. She cut a look toward the kitchen, ducked her head, and rushed from behind the sofa toward the door.
“Liana.”
Elian called her.
Liana bit through the pain, quick, short steps toward the door. Mm?
By the time she figured out his front-door lock and turned it, the door hadn’t even cracked open before she was pinned against it from behind.
“Elian,” she gritted out, embarrassed.
His arm wrapped around her from behind, his gaze fixed on the delicate, pink shell of her ear. His voice was low, controlled. “You’re not leaving.”
The command, delivered not with anger but with a quiet, relentless certainty, was unnerving.
Her mind short-circuited. His entire body was molded against her back, his familiar, higher body heat seeping through the thin fabric. Her hand still gripped the lock. After a long moment, she whispered, “You said I could leave with Dr. Sage.”
“But she left. And besides…”
Elian’s breath hitched as his gaze traveled down her exposed neckline.
Damn it. She looks devastating in this shirt.
“And besides what?” Liana asked, turning her head slightly to look at him.
“I want you.
“I’m dying for you.”
His eyes were dark pools, his expression cool, his voice almost calm. Yet an undeniable, predatory intensity radiated from him, as if he might lower his head and sink his teeth into her throat at any second.
“You’ve got the wrong person,” Liana finally replied, her voice cold.
She tried to turn the handle, but his hand covered hers, prying her fingers away and bringing both their hands to rest firmly on her lower abdomen.
Right there.
