Chapter 12 A Photo Under the Pillow
Jasmine rolled her eyes internally.
This wasn’t “feeling like” stealing.
It was a blatant invasion.
The mistress was at the door, and the in-laws were her personal army.
Jasmine was a lone soldier; she had to fight smart.
“It’s fine. You’re a new mother now. Think of it as being for the baby. You deserve the best room.”
Madeline gave a small cough. “Felicity, if Jasmine is being this generous, don’t refuse. We’re all family. Don’t be too formal. Just take the room.”
“If you say so, Grandmother,” Felicity replied softly.
Then she added pointedly, “Thank you, Jasmine.”
Jasmine tightened her smile. “You’re very welcome.”
Chloe Vance, still fuming from yesterday, muttered under her breath, “What a fake!”
Jasmine heard it.
She just chose to ignore it.
She didn’t have time to deal with a bratty teenager.
The baby in the cradle suddenly started wailing.
The entire group swarmed around him, panicking as if the world were ending.
Jasmine watched the “happy” scene from a distance, feeling nothing but cold contempt.
She turned and walked back to her room without a word.
Mrs. Gable followed her in. “Ma’am, let me help you pack.”
“Thank you.”
Mrs. Gable started moving but couldn’t help whispering her frustration.
“Ma’am, she’s clearly bullying you! How can you not be angry? Why did you give up the room so easily?”
Jasmine just smiled, offering no explanation.
She didn’t even want Silas anymore.
Why would she care about a room?
She didn’t fight because it was meaningless.
She wasn’t staying in this house much longer anyway.
Her only goal now was to finish her plans before she left.
She couldn’t afford a direct confrontation.
Retreat was the better strategy.
Jasmine suddenly remembered something. “Mrs. Gable, do we have a photo of the brothers together?”
Mrs. Gable thought for a moment. “I think so. In the attic storage.”
“Go get it for me.”
Mrs. Gable was confused. “What do you want that for? After Julian died, Mr. Vance put everything related to him away. He said it was too painful to look at.”
