Chapter 158 Hope Restored
Chapter 158 Hope Restored
It’s gone, and that’s that. Maybe my time with it was just meant to be over
“But that was something your mother left for you…”
“Mom wouldn’t be mad at me about it.”

I’m so sorry.” Jasmine felt a heavy weight of guilt. “Just give me a little more time-I’ll look for it again Sometimes lost things turn up when you least expect them. Margaret says there’s a kind of magic in finding what’s missing. And if it really doesn’t show up… I’ll get you another one just like it.”
Ethan’s expression was gentle, without a trace of accusation.
“That one was custom-made. Truly one of a kind. You can’t just walk into a store and buy another.”
Jasmine’s shoulders sank.
She let out a sigh.
How could she have been so careless?
“Come on, don’t worry over something like this. It’s not worth stressing about.”
Jasmine murmured, “Not worth it? This is a big deal to you. That watch meant everything.”
Afaint smile touched the corner of Ethan’s mouth.
“There’s something more important to me now than that watch.”
Jasmine paused. “What is it?”
Ethan leaned in slightly. “Tell me what happened at Sanoviv Sanatorium.”
Oh…
So that was it…
Getting back to the main point, Jasmine’s smile slowly faded.
She recounted everything that had taken place at Sanoviv, leaving nothing out.
When she finished, she couldn’t shake the feeling that something was off
Ethan guided her gently. “As the director, when she mentioned a patient who’d been at the sanatorium tor over twenty years and then suddenly passed away… don’t you think it was strange that there wasn’t a hint of sadness in her voice?
“And the caretaker who quit right after your mother died-doesn’t that seem suspicious? What if Serena made sure you couldn’t meet that person because he’s hiding something?”

Jasmine turned it over in her mind. “I don’t know why, but I keep having this feeling Like my tarth mother isn’t really dead. Like she’s still out there But I saw the death certificate myself
Ethan’s voice was calm. “Death certificates can be forged. Think about it-your father faked one years ago to protect your mom.”
Jasmine’s eyes widened, and a spark of hope flickered inside her. “You mean… that certificate fould be fake? My mother could still be alive?”
Ethan nodded. “It’s possible.”
Then I can’t go back to Rivercrest yet. I need to find out the truth.”
“I’ll help you look into it,” Ethan said softly.
Out of the blue, hope bloomed again-like spotting a light in total darkness. Jasmine felt a rush of joy wash over her.
Without thinking, she reached out and took both of his hands in hers.
“Ethan, I’ve just realized… you really are my lucky charm.”
A fond look flashed in Ethan’s eyes. “The key person here isn’t Serena. It’s the caretaker who looked after your mother. We need to find her quietly, without raising any alarms, and see what she knows.”
Jasmine nodded eagerly. “You’re right. Absolutely.”
Ethan noticed the tension leaving her brow, her face softening.
Like a magician, he drew a thermos and a lunch container from his bag. “I rushed here straight from the airport, so I didn’t have time to pack much. Just some hot coffee and a few sandwiches. Will this be okay
for now?”
Jasmine felt a warm tug at her heart. She smiled.
Then she twisted around and pulled out her own insulated container. “Margaret packed this for me. It’s still warm. It’s really good-want to try some?”
Ethan smiled. “Sure. Let’s eat together.”
Jasmine opened the container before remembering one small problem.
There was only one set of utensils.
And she’d already used them.
Seeing her hesitation, Ethan simply took the fork from her hand. “It’s line. Desperate times call for desperate measures. Let’s not stand on ceremony-the important thing is to cat.”
Jasmine couldn’t help grinning. “You know, for a guy who grew up with a silver spoon, you’re really not what I expected.”
