Chapter 181 A Farewell Dinner
“Silas, I’m serious about the divorce. I’m done with you and with the Vance family.

“I resent you, and I resent everything that family stands for. Leaving is the only way out for me. But I won’t let that bitterness define the rest of my life. Once this is over, we go our separate ways, clean and simple. I’m not going to waste another second stressing over the Vances’ endless drama.”
Silas felt a tightness in his chest.
“But we had a plan-a temporary divorce, just for show. I was going to bring you back into the family when things settled.”
Jasmine let out a tired sigh.
“I’m done pretending, Silas. I’m exhausted. All I want now is to live honestly, without the lies.
“I can’t stand the sight of your family. I’m sick of your secrets and your betrayal. And I’ve had enough of your precious little sweetheart and her never-ending performances. The Vance circus is the last thing I need in my life.
“So why on earth would I ever come back? You’re only fooling yourself.”
Silas opened his mouth to speak.
Jasmine didn’t let him.
“This is how it should be. You marry whoever you want, take over the family empire, become that enviable Vance heir everyone looks up to.
“Your family won’t have to be angry because of me anymore. No more fighting, no more tension-just because I’m in the picture.
“Isn’t that what you always wanted, Silas?”
For a moment, Silas was frozen.
It was what he’d wanted.
But that was before.
Now, besides the family business, he wanted…
Silas suddenly reached for Jasmine’s hand, as if trying to hold her there.
“I want you, too.”
Jasmine pulled her hand back quickly.
“After everything that’s happened, there’s no going back.”

She paused, her voice softer but firm.
“The truth is, we were wrong from the very beginning.
“I never should have married someone who never truly loved me. And you shouldn’t have settled for someone you didn’t really want. If we hadn’t walked down that aisle back then, none of this would be happening.”
Silas watched her face, beautiful yet distant, and a hollow feeling washed over him.
He didn’t want to lose her-not now.
But he knew he was out of options.
“Just let it go, Silas. You don’t really hate the idea of me leaving. You’re just not used to it yet. Give it a few days, and you’ll move on.”
Silas’ fingers tapped slowly against the steering wheel, again and again.
Jasmine knew that look-he was calculating, weighing what mattered most.
When it came down to it, he’d always choose practicality over passion,
After a long silence, Silas turned to her, his voice strangely calm.
“Alright. Let’s make this a clean break.”
A faint, relieved smile touched Jasmine’s lips.
“Okay.”
A weight lifted from her shoulders. She reached for the door handle.
Silas caught her wrist gently.
“Have dinner with me tomorrow night.”
Jasmine instinctively shook her head.
“There’s no point.”
His grip tightened slightly.
“We spent three years together, and I never once took you out for a proper meal. Before the divorce, let’s have one nice dinner.”
His tone was earnest, almost pleading.
“Think of it as a farewell. If we’re really ending things on good terms, can’t you grant me this one last thing?”

Jasmine hesitated, her resolve wavering.
Finally, she nodded slowly. “Fine.”
Call it a final act of grace.
After this, they’d truly be strangers.
Silas released her hand.
“I’ll pick you up tomorrow.”
“Okay.”
Jasmine stepped out of the car.
For some reason, her gaze drifted toward Building Three.
That was where Ethan lived.
They hadn’t spoken since that day at the hospital.
But the memory of the cut on his lip kept resurfacing in her mind.
Jasmine pressed a hand to her forehead.
God, what was wrong with her? Why couldn’t she remember?
What had she even done to Ethan that day?
But she couldn’t bring herself to ask him.
It was clear he was uncomfortable too.
Better to just pretend it never happened.
The next evening, Silas arrived to pick Jasmine up.
Margaret waited by the door, her expression worried.
“Miss, are you sure about this dinner? I don’t trust his intentions.”

Jasmine offered a reassuring smile.
“Margaret, you worry too much. Silas cares about himself more than anything else. He wouldn’t risk doing something reckless. And we’ll be in a public place—there’s only so much he could do.”
She took Margaret’s hands and glanced toward the bedroom.
