He tightened his embrace around her.

“Through it all, you’re the only one who’s always had me in your thoughts.”

A call from Victoria cut into their quiet moment.

Silas glanced at the caller ID, and his brow furrowed slightly.

He picked up reluctantly.

Victoria’s anxious voice came through the line.

“Silas, where are you? Come home now. Your grandma isn’t feeling well. Please hurry.”

After hanging up, Silas’ expression remained unmoved, almost detached.

He rose slowly, straightening his suit jacket.

“I have to head back. Marcus will take care of the flower shop arrangements soon. As for this place, I’ll talk to the manager-he’ll let you go without any trouble.”

Vivienne watched him leave, the warmth in her gaze gradually fading.

When Silas arrived home, he passed the family physician on the way out.

Silas paused. “How is my grandmother doing?”

The doctor replied calmly. “She experienced a sudden spike in blood pressure brought on by stress. Rest is all she needs. Honestly, Mrs. Victoria Vance was overly concerned-your grandmother is in very good health overall.”

Silas gave a noncommittal hum.

Madeline’s room was crowded with family, their faces etched with worry.

Felicity hurried over and threw her arms around Silas.

“I was so scared earlier, Silas. Grandma almost fainted.”

Silas gently disentangled himself, his face blank.

Only when he reached Madeline’s bedside did he allow a look of concern to surface.

“Grandma, are you feeling better now?”

Madeline finished the last of her herbal tonic and spoke tersely, “So you finally decided to come home!”

Silas held back his irritation.

“I turned the car around as soon as Mom called. There was some traffic-it slowed me down a little

Madeline was about to snap back when Felicity cut in gently, “Grandma, Silas is under so much pressure every day, but he came straight home when he heard you weren’t well. That shows how much he cares.. Please don’t be upset with him.”

Madeline dabbed her mouth with a napkin.

Victoria hovered nearby attentively, tossing the used napkin into the trash.

“Madeline, this isn’t the time to be upset with Silas. We have a real situation to handle.”

Just mentioning it made Madeline’s anger flare again.

“And how exactly are we supposed to handle it? I’ve called in every favor I’ve ever given, and not one person stepped up.

“All these years of helping them out, and when I really need something, they vanish. Every last one of them has an excuse. I’ve wasted my kindness on a bunch of cowards.”

Silas looked puzzled.

“What’s going on exactly?”

Felicity filled him in. “Grandma’s medspa clinic was served a cease-and-desist notice today. They’re shutting it down pending investigation.”

Sílas was taken aback.

“How did that happen?”

That clinic’s annual revenue wasn’t far off from his own company, Nexora Tech.

Felicity went on, “You remember that patient who died from complications after liposuction at the clinic a while back? Grandma had that completely settled-the family was compensated generously, and they signed an NDA.

“But now the whole story’s been leaked. And it’s not just that-several other former patients with past grievances have come forward all at once, making accusations. It’s like they’re trying to bury the clinic for good.”

“Crash!”

A crystal glass flew across the room and shattered against the floor.

Madeline’s face tightened with anger.

“Someone is clearly behind this. And when I find out who…”

Silas didn’t seem overly concerned. He offered a lukewarm attempt at comfort.

“Grandma, try not to let it get to you. This might all quiet down in a few days.”

Victoria jumped in. “It won’t just ‘quiet down. From what our contacts are saying, this is an indefinite suspension.

“If that clinic stays closed, this family loses one of its biggest income streams.”

Madeline shot her a sharp look.

“Is money really what you’re worried about right now? What matters is that someone has deliberately humiliated us—and we can’t just swallow it.”

Chloe, who had stayed quiet until now, spoke up suddenly.

“Grandma, I’m sure it’s that witch.”

Silas didn’t like her tone.
