Chapter 194 The Bracelet

Chapter 194 The Bracelet

Silas tossed the contract onto the polished mahogany table with a soft slap.

“I hope you mean what you say,” he said, his voice cool and even.

Caleb stepped forward, and for a moment, Jasmine held her breath-worried he might say something to set Silas off. But to her relief, it went smoothly.

“Seems you’re a man of your word, Mr. Vance,” Caleb replied smoothly. “Don’t worry, once the contract is signed, the funds will be wired to your account immediately.”

Silas didn’t so much as glance Caleb’s way.

Jasmine signed both copies, her movements deliberate. She held onto her copy almost tenderly, like it was something precious.

Her father’s legacy-the company he’d poured his life into-was finally safe. This felt like her final act of gratitude, the last thing she could do to repay him for everything.

“Mr. Grant,” Silas spoke up abruptly, “you have a moment?”

Both Caleb and Jasmine were caught off guard. What could he possibly want now?

“Sure,” Caleb agreed without hesitation.

Jaśmine took the cue and stepped out of the office, leaving the two men to talk.

Next door was a small conference room. She pushed the door open, thinking she’d kill time there until Caleb was done.

She certainly hadn’t expected to run into the one person she really didn’t want to see.

Felicity was lounging in one of the plush chairs, casually sipping from a porcelain coffee cup, nibbling on a shortbread cookie, and scrolling through her phone. When she heard the door, she assumed it was Silas.

“Silas, you’re-” Her voice cut off, her expression icing over the second she saw Jasmine. “You.”

Jasmine walked in calmly, pulled out a chair, and sank into it with an air of deliberate case.

“Didn’t you hear, Ms. Sterling? I’m the chairwoman of the board now.”

Felicity straightened slightly, not wanting to appear unsettled.

“So?”

Jasmine glanced up, her tone casual.

“So, you can see yourself out.”

“You- Felicity bit back her anger, forcing a tight laugh instead.

“I have to admit, I’m surprised. After everything with Silas, you still landed on your feet at Thorne Enterprises. Lucky you.”

A faint, mocking smile touched Jasmine’s lips.

“I should actually thank you, Ms. Sterling. If it weren’t for you-my former sister-in-law-sneaking around with my ex-husband, I might not have learned so quickly how to tell a decent person from a snake.”

Felicity’s smile turned strained.

“What’s the point of rehashing all this? You’re chairwoman now. Shouldn’t you act the part?”

“You’re right. Why would I waste my dignity getting worked up over the other woman?”

Felicity pressed her lips together, deciding silence was the better move. Anything she said would only give Jasmine more ammunition.

Jasmine let her eyes drift over Felicity’s outfit-still the same style: body-conscious dress, flawless makeup the kind of looks that turned heads. A real beauty, no doubt. Too bad her character didn’t match.

Guess she had her father to thank for that-the apple didn’t fall far.

“Since we’re saying goodbye,” Jasmine began, her tone almost conversational, “let me give you a little advice.”

Felicity rolled her eyes.

“What advice could I possibly need from you?”

Jasmine’s smile didn’t reach her eyes.

“You might find it useful.”

“Just say it, then. Don’t act all righteous.”

Jasmine rested her elbows on the table, chin in her hands, her bright eyes holding Felicity’s gaze.

“Keep a close eye on Silas. Wouldn’t want you to end up like… well, me.”

Felicity let out a dismissive laugh.

“Please. Silas and I are nothing like you two. He never loved you-not from the start. But with me, it’s always been real. He’s not going to change. We’re going to be happy. For life.”

As she spoke, she subtly flicked her wrist, letting the diamond bracelet catch the light.

“Happy… for life.” Jasmine’s eyes crinkled with something that wasn’t quite a smile. “That bracelet is lovely.”

Felicity couldn’t hide a touch of smugness.

“Silas picked it out just for me. He has excellent taste.”

Jasmine nodded slowly.

“Mm. Specially for you. That’s sweet. Seems he really does care.”

Felicity sat taller.

“You and Silas are divorced. You don’t have to speak to me with that jealous tone anymore. I know you resent me, but that’s just how it goes. Love isn’t something you can negotiate. The divorce had nothing to do with me-you two just weren’t right for each other.”

Jasmine’s lips quirked slightly.

“You’re absolutely right. We really weren’t.”

Before Felicity could retort, the door swung open.

Silas walked in.
