Felicity was clearly drawn to Silas on a purely physical level-as they walked, she kept leaning into him, letting her body brush against his arm.

Silas, though, seemed more conscious of appearances and subtly kept putting a little distance between them whenever she got too close.

Caleb nudged Jasmine and lowered his voice. “I bet that little princess has no clue about Silas’ ‘special friend’. If she ever found out, she’d probably throw a full-blown tantrum-tears, screaming, the whole drama.”

Jasmine ignored his remark and muttered under her breath, “Why on earth did you agree to have lunch with him?”

The four of them sharing a meal? It sounded like a recipe for disaster.

Caleb shrugged. “We had to eat anyway. This way it’s on his dime. I just dropped a ton on that last deal- my wallet’s feeling pretty light these days.”

Jasmine let out a short laugh. “Yeah, right. Since when is Mr. Grant short on cash?”

Caleb just smiled and didn’t elaborate.

Jasmine pressed, “So what did you two talk about in there, anyway?”

“Want to know?” Caleb teased. “Beg me.”

Jasmine shot him a look. “Sierra really needs to put you in your place.”

“Her?” Caleb smirked. “We’ll see who puts whom in place. Don’t forget, she’s the one who needs me right now. If I weren’t playing her fake boyfriend to get her parents off her back, do you think she’d be enjoying such a peaceful life?”

She’d be drowning in set-ups and awkward blind dates.

Jasmine felt a pang of sympathy for Sierra. “She’s in a tough spot too. Don’t take advantage of the situation.”

Caleb rolled his eyes dramatically. “Come on, sweetheart, open your eyes. I’m still sore from where she

kicked me last time.”

Jasmine knew he was exaggerating, but she almost smiled. “You’re changing the subject. Are you really not going to tell me?”

Caleb dropped the playful tone. “He said the divorce wasn’t his idea. That he never meant to hurt you. He also told me to stay away from you-said you weren’t right for me.”

Jasmine made a face. “And you believed that?”

“I believe.” Caleb said smoothly, “that I’m definitely going to pursue you.”

The restaurant they chose had a retro vibe.

It was called “Reminiscence”.

Probably meant to evoke nostalgia-the kind of place decorated with vintage photographs and rustic wooden finishes.

They were seated in a private booth.

Felicity took the spot beside Silas, while Jasmine sat next to Caleb.

For a moment, the four of them just sat in awkward silence.

When the server brought menus, both Silas and Caleb handed theirs to Jasmine.

She took Silas’ menu and passed it to Felicity.

“Here you go, Ms. Sterling.”

Then she accepted Caleb’s.

Felicity shot Silas a wounded look.

Silas glared at Jasmine.

Unfazed, Jasmine skimmed the menu and placed their orders-making sure to include several dishes she knew Caleb liked.

After all, he’d been the one doing her favors lately.

Felicity frowned. “Silas doesn’t like sweet and sour flavors. And he doesn’t eat fish.”

Jasmine replied casually, “But Mr. Grant does. And isn’t Mr. Vance treating today?”

Caleb grinned. “See? All those years of sticking together weren’t for nothing. You still remember what 1 like.”

He added playfully, “Jasmine, I like you even more now. What am I supposed to do with that?”

Jasmine kept her eyes on her napkin, ignoring him.

Go ahead, put on a show.

Sure enough, Silas’ expression darkened.

“Mr. Grant, we agreed this was just a casual meal. Let’s keep the jokes appropriate.”

Caleb pressed his lips together, feigning seriousness. “Just speaking my mind. But fine, I’ll behave. Let’s

eat.”

Neither Silas nor Felicity looked like they were going to enjoy the meal.

Jasmine and Caleb, on the other hand, dug in with decent appetites.

That was, until an unexpected guest showed up.

Chloe’s sudden appearance made Jasmine feel like she’d seen a ghost.

This girl really is like a shadow.

Silas explained calmly, “Chloe happened to be in the area, so I invited her to join. I hope you don’t mind.”

Both Jasmine and Caleb offered thin smiles.
