“But in front of the family, feel free to do whatever you’d like. I really don’t think something so minor would bother you much.”
Minor?
Silas didn’t even argue.
In Madeline’s mind, only her own thoughts and decisions were of any importance. As for his, they truly were nothing more than insignificant trifles.
Madeline pressed her advantage while she had the momentum.
“Silas, Theodore only has Felicity as his daughter. Once you and Felicity are married, the businesses of both the Vance and Sterling families will rest entirely on your shoulders.
“Silas, do you understand?”
The same old tactic, and it never failed. Silas was moved by it once again. Had he not been the obedient one all these years for exactly this reason?
Now that the divorce was finalized, what was a little more patience?
So Silas forced a smile.
“Grandma, I’ll do as you say. I was just tired today-my attitude wasn’t the best earlier.”
Madeline was satisfied.
“With Felicity, you need to be more considerate. Don’t let her feel overlooked. She’s been through a lot in our family over the years. As her future husband, you should show her more care.”
Silas swallowed his irritation.
“Alright.”
“Silas, tell me honestly… are your feelings for Felicity starting to change?”
The word yes lodged in his throat.
He wanted to spit it out, but had to force it back down-a frustrating, choking sensation.
In the end, he said what he knew she wanted to hear.
“No, Grandma. Don’t worry. My feelings for Felicity haven’t changed.”
Madeline gave a pleased nod.
“Good. You look like you didn’t sleep well last night-why don’t you head to the office a bit later today?”

“No, I’ve got things to take care of at the company.”
“Then go ahead.”
Silas turned and left.
Every time he walked into that house now, he felt a heaviness pressing against his chest.
Once in the car, he rolled down the window and smoked two cigarettes in a row.
He wondered if he’d made a mistake somewhere.
But what exactly was wrong? He couldn’t quite put his finger on it.

He began to doubt his own original feelings. Had he wanted Felicity so badly back then because he truly liked her? Or was it simply that someone had snatched away what he thought of as his beloved toy, and out of nothing more than wounded pride and a competitive streak, he had desperately wanted to take her back?
Felicity stepped out of the room once Silas was gone.
Madeline smiled. “Did you hear all of that?”
Felicity leaned against her affectionately. “Yes, I heard everything.”
“Feeling better now?”
“Much better.”
Madeline patted her hand tenderly, as if she were her own granddaughter.
“Don’t let your imagination run away with you anymore. You’re the one Silas loves most, and you’ve done so much for the Vance family. There’s no way he would ever change.”
Felicity pouted lightly. “It’s just that Silas has seemed a little distant lately, so I thought…”
Madeline reassured her, “He’s under a lot of pressure right now. Between the new production facility and competing with Ethan in the same industry, of course he’s stressed. You should try to see things from his side too, don’t you think?”
In a sweet tone, Felicity replied, “I know, Grandma. I was wrong to overthink things.”
It was a warm, happy scene-at least on the surface.
“Felicity,” Madeline went on, “I promise you this: as soon as the divorce papers are finalized, I’ll make sure Silas marries you.”
Felicity bit her lip slightly. “But Grandma, what if Silas changes his mind?”

Chapter 200 Do You Regret It
Madeline’s expression turned firm. “He won’t get the chance. I’ve already called in a few favors. Their divorce filing will be processed very soon-once it’s through, they’ll get the license immediately.
Felicity threw her arms around Madeline, overjoyed. “Thank you, Grandma! You’re so good to me. Don’t worry-I’ll talk to my father and have him help get your cosmetic surgery center reopened as soon as possible.”
Meanwhile, Silas’ hand tightened around the doorknob just outside the room.
If he had not forgotten something and made a point of turning back, he would never have heard such an illuminating conversation. So it was not just him. Everyone was scheming. Everyone had their own agenda.
Thinking about it now, the only person who had stayed by his side over these three years with no agenda and no scheming was probably his wife. But the two of them had already begun to part ways.
Silas asked himself, “Do you regret it?”
The answer was yes.
At that moment, he saw his own heart more clearly than ever before.
He didn’t want to lose the woman who had been with him for three years.
He really didn’t.
Before the move, Margaret had picked what she considered a lucky day.
Caleb and Sierra showed up early to help with the heavy lifting.
Ethan arrived in the middle of it all.
When he walked in, Jasmine was bending over to pick up an empty cardboard box from the floor.
Ethan hurried over.
“Don’t lift that.”
Jasmine looked up and smiled at his concerned expression. “It’s empty-it’s not heavy at all.”
