Ethan gently guided her aside.
“Go sit down-I’ll handle things here.”

Jasmine shook her head lightly. “I’ll just grab something small. Need to stretch my legs a little anyway.
Ethan passed her a book instead.
“Here. Keep yourself busy.”
Jasmine couldn’t hold back a soft laugh.
She was about to reply when a dull thud echoed from the next room.
“You okay? “She wasn’t worried about anything breaking-Sierra and Caleb were in there.
It turned out Sierra had accidentally knocked a box off a shelf.
“We’re fine!” Sierra called out.
Relieved, Jasmine stayed where she was.
In the other room, Sierra knelt to gather the scattered items from the floor.
That was when she noticed-the box was filled with photos of Jasmine, from childhood all the way to the
present.
And the very last one…
Sierra’s hand stilled.
It was a picture from Jasmine’s wedding.
The man’s back in that photo-
Caleb noticed her frozen crouch and wandered over.
“What’s up? Find some buried treasure?”
But as he got closer and glimpsed the figure in the photo, he too went completely still.
He snatched the picture from Sierra’s hand.
Others might have wondered whose silhouette that was.
But not Caleb.
There was no mistaking it-that was his best friend.

When Sierra finally spoke, all traces of her usual smile had vanished, replaced by something almost sorrowful.
“That’s Mr. Brooks, isn’t it?”
Caleb hesitated a long moment.
“No. You’re seeing things.”
“Caleb,” she said quietly, “do I look blind or stupid to you?”
He let out a slow sigh.
“Just… pretend you never saw this.”
Sierra stared blankly for another few seconds.
“How is this even possible…”
Not wanting to expose the truth, Caleb scrambled for an excuse.
“Maybe it was a coincidence that day-maybe he was just passing through town. Could’ve been there for something else.”
The words barely left his mouth before he wanted to take them back.
What kind of lousy cover was that? He didn’t even believe it himself.
Sierra took the photo back and studied it carefully.
Then it came back to her-she had been at Jasmine’s wedding.
In the crowd that day, she’d noticed a man who seemed to blend in, yet carried himself with such a quiet, compelling presence that he stood out anyway.
Even from behind, he was hard to forget.
Curious, Sierra had considered going over to introduce herself.
But before she could, the man had disappeared into the crowd.
Even now, she felt a twinge of regret thinking about it-if she hadn’t hesitated, maybe she would’ve learned who he was.
Then later, she met Ethan.
And she’d felt that strange sense of familiarity again.
He bore such a striking resemblance to that lone figure.
But she’d brushed it off, telling herself she was imagining things.

Now she knew she hadn’t been imagining anything.
That back really was his.
So why had Ethan been at Jasmine’s wedding?
And why was he so unusually attentive to her?
King.
Storm.
Piece by piece, things started clicking into place in Sierra’s mind-and with them, the answer.
“So… Mr. Brooks knew a long time ago that Storm was Jasmine.
“And even back then… he had feelings for her.
“That’s why he came to her wedding.
“Am I right, Caleb?”
Caleb knew the jig was up. He gritted his teeth.

“Yeah. You’re right. Ethan figured out Jasmine was Storm way back. And yeah… that’s when he fell for her.
“He wanted to tell her how he felt, but by then Jasmine was already with Silas, so Ethan backed off.
“On her wedding day, Ethan flew all the way from Portshire to Rivercrest just to see her.
“He wanted to see Jasmine in her wedding dress… to see if she looked happy.
“When he saw her in that gown, smiling and content, Ethan left quietly. But before he went, he left her a wedding gift.”
Sierra felt a sudden tightness in her throat.
“A gift?”
“A necklace,” Caleb said quietly. “Designed by Ethan himself. The pendant was shaped like a jasmine
blossom.”
Because Jasmine’s name carried the flower within it, and because of an old tale about jasmine flowers.
The legend spoke of a jasmine fairy, graceful and pure, who poured her blessing into the pendant, gifting it with something magical and eternal.
