Madeline let out a dismissive chuckle.

“Looks like that woman never really saw you as her husband. Something as big as finding her birth mother, and she didn’t even mention it to you.”
Silas clenched his jaw and stayed quiet.
Lately, whenever Madeline made those kinds of remarks in that sarcastic tone, it took everything in him
not to snap.
“So what if it was her mother? Chloe already said the woman walked right into the street. Who else is there to blame?
“Even if it hadn’t been Chloe, someone else would’ve hit her.
“Just bad luck that it was Chloe. I’ve always said that girl is trouble-nothing but a curse on this family.”
Silas frowned deeply.
“Grandma, her mother died. Do you really have to-”
“Enough,” Madeline cut him off, lifting her eyes. “Since you handled it, let’s not bring it up again.”
After she left, Silas kicked the couch in frustration.
Feeling backed up again, Chloe regained her nerve.
“If there’s nothing else, I’m going to my room. I’m tired and I want to get some more sleep.”
“Hold it right there!”
Chloe kept her distance, afraid he might hit her again.
“Haven’t you hit me enough already? You want to do it again?”
Silas tightened his fists.
“I really do want to hit you!”

Chloe shrank back.
“You already fixed everything! What more do you want?
“Fixed everything?” Silas glared at her. “A person died, Chloe. Do you get that?”
“Grandma already said every life has a price. We’ll just pay them off!
“Besides, that woman doesn’t even know it was me. Why are you so worked up?”

Chapter 212 A Sister’s Crime
Felicity walked over and gently touched Silas’ arm.
“Sijas, that’s enough. You’ve yelled, you’ve hit her. Chloe knows she messed up. Let it go.”
Silas closed his eyes and took a slow breath.
“And this is what ‘messing up’ looks like to her?”
“Chloe’s still young. She needs time to learn. Yes, this was serious, but we’ve taken care of it.”

“Chloe,” Felicity signaled with her eyes, “aren’t you going to thank your brother? Even though he lost his- temper, the second he heard what happened, he dropped everything to help you. That shows how much he cares.”
Chloe forced a smile and moved toward Silas, tugging lightly on his sleeve.
“Silas… I know I was wrong.”
Silas pulled his arm away.
“Start packing, Chloe. I’m sending you abroad.”
Chloe immediately protested.
“No way! I’m fine here. Why would I go overseas?”
If she left the country, she’d never see Ethan again.
There was no chance she was going.
Silas’ mind was made up.
“You’re going whether you like it or not. You don’t have a say in this. I’ll have Marcus book your flight in the next few days.”
“No! Absolutely not! I’m not leaving!” Chloe shouted.
“What gives you the right to decide for me? I’m not a kid anymore-I can make my own choices!”
“You want to talk to me about rights?” Silas shot back. “If you’re so capable, why didn’t you handle this yourself? Why call me to clean up your mess?”
“Because you’re part of this too! You’re involved!”
Their argument escalated, sharp and heated.
“If you hadn’t stopped me from seeing Ethan, if you hadn’t hit me that night, I never would’ve gone out drinking!
“I wouldn’t have needed to blow off steam because I was upset! So that woman’s mother getting killed— half of that is on you too!”

“You-!”
Silas raised his hand to strike her again.
But this time, the slap didn’t land on Chloe’s face.
