Chapter 222 Getting Ready

Chapter 222 Getting Ready

“If/I show up uninvited, I’m worried Mr. Crawford might not take it well.”

Madeline waved a hand. “Just go, Silas. I’ll smooth things over with him.”

Silas had little choice but to agree-though the thought of that celebration dinner tonight turned his stomach.

“Grandma, something came up at the office. I’ll have to skip dinner.”

Madeline halfway suspected he was making an excuse. She opened her mouth to say so, but then hesitated.

The divorce papers were signed now; there was no point tightening the leash any further. Pushing him too hard might only drive a deeper wedge between them.

“Alright, go handle your business. Your mother, Felicity, and I will celebrate without you. And don’t forget to take the gift for Mr. Crawford on your way out.”

Once outside, his phone rang. It was Marcus.

Silas answered, tension sharp in his voice. “Well?”

“Still nothing,” Marcus reported. “And there’s no way to verify whether Ms. Thorne is actually Storm.”

Silas ran a hand through his hair, frustration simmering. That woman-dropping a bombshell like that and vanishing. Was it all nonsense? Or could it be true?

If it was a lie, how would someone who barely left the house even know about Storm? Questions swirled in his head, each one gnawing at him.

Maybe drowning himself in a drink would dull the ache.

At the bar, Vivienne sat beside Silas, watching him down one glass after another. Gently, she laid a hand on his arm. “You’ve had enough.”

Silas’ expression darkened. “You too? Everyone’s trying to run my life now?”

“I’m not trying to run anything,” Vivienne said softly. “I just care about you. This isn’t good for you.”

His fingers tightened around the glass. “I’m divorced.”

“I know.”

“Doesn’t feel real.”

“How so?”

Silas set the drink down, propped his feet on the coffee table, and sank deeper into the couch. His face was a mix of complicated emotions, his brow permanently furrowed.

Chapter 222 Getting Ready

“It’s like… she’s still my wife. Like nothing’s changed.”

“But legally, it has,” Vivienne pointed out quietly.

A shadow of pain crossed Silas’ eyes. Vivienne studied him. “Can’t let go? Or maybe… regretting it?”

“Would it sound pathetic if I said yes?”

Vivienne was taken aback. Hearing Silas describe himself that way—it was rare.

“Not pathetic. But I don’t think you should regret it. At least now you have what you wanted.”

“What I wanted…” Silas echoed, his gaze distant. “Now all I want is her.”

Vivienne looked down and stayed silent.

Suddenly, Silas pulled her close, his movements rough but his grip firm.

“Vivienne.”

She rested against his chest. “Yes?”

“Are you going to leave me too?”

“Probably. Everything ends eventually.”

Silas bit down on the curve of her neck-hard. A vivid mark bloomed against her fair skin. Vivienne flinched but made no sound.

“I found a place,” he said, his voice low. “Pack your things in the next few days and move there. As for the flower shop… give it another week. The company’s swamped with the expo and the AI Robotics Challenge. Too much going on right now.”

Vivienne released a soft, almost imperceptible sigh. “Alright. I’ll do as you say.”

Silas pinched her chin lightly. “Good girl.”

As he spoke, his eyes drifted downward, to the deep neckline of her blouse. The full curve of her breasts pressed against him-a familiar, tempting sensation that never failed to stir him. Almost without thought, his hand slid beneath her shirt.

Vivienne trembled slightly, a shiver running through her.

They tumbled onto the couch, a tangle of limbs and heated breath. Lost in the moment, Silas buried his face in her neck and breathed a name, thick with emotion, “Jasmine.”

Jasmine pulled yet another outfit from the closet, holding it up to herself as she turned to Margaret. “What about this one? Does it work?”
