Compared to the jewelry her father had left her, that bracelet hardly seemed worth anything-but to her. it meant everything.
Just as her car was about to pull out of the neighborhood, a black sedan suddenly cut her off, slamming to a halt right in front of her. Jasmine stomped on the brakes, her heart racing long after the car had jolted to a stop.
When she saw who stepped out, she cursed his entire family tree in her head. For a second, she even considered hitting the gas and running him over.
Silas yanked on her car door-locked. His voice turned low and tense as he knocked sharply on the window. “Open up.”
Jasmine rolled it down just a crack.
“You know I could have you arrested for that, Mr. Vance.”
Before he could reply, she added coldly, “Then again, I almost forgot the Vances have enough money and influence to make anything go away. I doubt the police would bother.”
“Get out,” Silas demanded. “We need to talk.”
Jasmine didn’t budge.
“I’m busy.”
“Either talk to me properly now,” he said, leaving no room for argument, “or we stay here all day.”
Another car pulled up behind them, blocked by Silas’ vehicle. The driver honked impatiently. Silas simply raised a hand and waved them off-arrogant, entitled, like he owned the road. Eventually, the other car turned around and drove away.
What a jerk.
Jasmine knew she wasn’t getting out of here unless she cooperated.
“Are you going to move your car?” she snapped. “This isn’t your private driveway. Have some common decency.”
“So you can drive off the second I move it?” he shot back.
Jasmine smirked. “I haven’t done anything wrong. Why would I run?”
Silas gave her a suspicious look, then finally went to reposition his car. He parked haphazardly and slammed the door so hard the sound echoed down the street.
Jasmine watched his little performance, completely unmoved.
He’s a grown man throwing a tantrum. Pathetic.

Once he walked back over, he got straight to the point.
“How did you suddenly get so close with Mr. and Mrs. Crawford?”

“My godmother already explained it to you,” Jasmine replied flatly. “If you didn’t believe her, you should’ve asked for details then:
Silas stiffened, then brushed past the subject entirely. That wasn’t why he was here-he needed answers to something bigger.
“The other day, you told me to call you ‘Storm. What was that about? Are you Storm?”
Jasmine hesitated, still weighing her response, when Silas cut in again, his tone dripping with disdain.
“There’s no way you’re Storm. Do you even know who Storm is? They’re one of Rivercrest University’s top cybersecurity experts-a tech genius you won’t find anywhere else in the state. Every major company is trying to recruit them. Landing Storm is like holding a trump card-someone who could redefine the entire field.”
He eyed her with open contempt. “And you? You dare call yourself Storm?”
Jasmine swallowed her words.
She wasn’t sure now-was he genuinely looking down on her, or was he just afraid to believe she might actually be Storm?
Either way, it didn’t matter.
She was going to have fun with this.
Putting on an innocent smile, she said, “You must have misheard me. I never said anything about Storm. I don’t even know what you’re talking about.”
Silas frowned deeply, his eyes locked on hers.
“I heard you clearly.”
Jasmine pretended to think for a moment.
“Oh… maybe I misspoke. How could I possibly be some tech genius? I’m doing alright just knowing basic computer stuff.”
Slowly, Silas’ expression relaxed.
Of course. There was no way this woman was Storm.
If she really were that brilliant, would she have stayed by his side for three years, tolerating everything without a word of complaint?
Jasmine smiled to herself but kept her face neutral.

“Are we done here? I really have to go.”
“Grandma mentioned that soon…” Silas started, then stumbled over his words.
Jasmine held back an eye-roll.
Grandma said, Grandma said…
