Chapter 227 The Baby’s Father
Jasmine was overwhelmed with a gratitude so deep she couldn’t quite put it into words.

This was Richard’s gift to her-one that gave her a real sense of belonging. From now on, anyone who thought about giving her a hard time would have to think twice.
She was truly moved.
“Richard, Joanne… thank you.”
Joanne gently brushed her hair with affection.
“We know about your biological mother’s situation-Richard and I both do. It’s just… without solid/ evidence, there isn’t much we can do right now.
“But you have to believe that the truth comes out eventually. It’s just so sad she passed away just when things were starting to look up for her.”
“Joanne,” Ethan stepped out of the bedroom and reminded her softly, “Jasmine’s pregnant.”
Joanne caught herself and quickly eased her tone.
A pregnant woman really shouldn’t get too emotional.
She smiled warmly. “Looks like I hit the jackpot today—not only did I gain a goddaughter, but I’m getting a grandchild, too.
“Good thing Mr. Vance doesn’t know you’re carrying his child. Otherwise, this could get even messier.”
Jasmine thought it over carefully and made a decision.
She was already divorced from Silas and had cut ties with the Vance family for good. There was no reason to tie this baby to Silas anymore.
She spoke calmly, yet firmly.
“This child isn’t Silas.”
After leaving her godparents’ house, Jasmine felt a pang of guilt all the way home.
She had never told Ethan that the baby wasn’t Silas’-even though he had always been nothing but sincere with her. Keeping something like this from him didn’t feel right.
But this wasn’t just any secret…
Finally, she spoke up, her voice tinged with remorse.
“I’m sorry.”
Ethan slowed his steps and looked at her calmly.

“Hmm? What for?”
Jasmine bit her lip. “I shouldn’t have kept it from you.”
Ethan’s expression softened.
“Actually, keeping it to yourself was the right call. This is a serious matter-the fewer people who know, the
better.”
Jasmine let out a quiet breath of relief.
He was always so understanding, so level-headed… it was something she truly admired.
“You were so quiet earlier… I thought you were upset with me.”
A faint smile tugged at the corners of Ethan’s mouth.
“You seem worried about whether I’m upset or not.”
Jasmine replied without thinking, “Of course I am. I don’t want you to be unhappy.”
“Why?”
“Because…”
Under his steady gaze, her heart suddenly beat a little faster.
“Because we’re good friends. And friends don’t like seeing each other upset.”
Something unreadable flickered in Ethan’s eyes.
“Right… good friends.”
They reached the parking garage and were about to go their separate ways when Ethan hesitated.
“Have you ever thought about…” he began, then paused.
Jasmine looked at him curiously. It was rare to see him uncertain like this. A faint smile touched her lips.
“What is it? You can tell me.”
“Have you ever considered telling the baby’s biological father that you’re pregnant?”
Jasmine’s gaze held his for a few seconds before she smiled calmly.
“I did think about it. But…”
She shook her head gently. “If I told him, it might disrupt his life. Using his sperm by mistake was already hard enough to live with-if I caused him more trouble, I’d never forgive myself.
“Plus, I can’t be sure how he’d react. It could put me in a difficult position, too.

A hint of tenderness passed over Ethan’s face, then faded back into his usual calm. His lips relaxed almost imperceptibly.
“That’s fair.”
Jasmine slipped the bracelet off her wrist.
“This is really too much… but Richard and Joanne were so warm and insistent, I’couldn’t say no. Looking back, I still feel a little bad accepting it.”
“You regret taking it?”
“Kind of.”
“If you hadn’t, they would’ve been hurt. Taking it made them happy.”
Ethan paused briefly.
“Truth is, they’ve always wanted a daughter. You showing up made that wish come true for them.”
A faint, self-deprecating smile appeared on Jasmine’s face.
“I feel like I’m reaching above my station here. I never expected them to welcome me as their goddaughter.”
Ethan’s brows drew together slightly.
“Why would you say that?”
