Chapter 235 Truth or Dare

Jasmine was taken aback. “Him? Then I really should thank him properly.”

Ethan shrugged it off. “We don’t stand on formalities. Besides, he’s hardly ever around here-he spends most of his time over in Chestnut Grove.”

That didn’t make much sense to Jasmine.

“But his club is here in Rivercrest. Why would he be in Chestnut Grove all the time?”

“The club’s just one of his ventures,” Ethan explained. “He’s got other businesses to handle.”

Jasmine only grew more confused.

Caleb jumped in, his tone tinged with regret.

“It’s because the person he loved lived in Chestnut Grove.”

The person he loved… in Chestnut Grove.

It sounded like the setup to a beautiful story-yet there was something undeniably sad underneath.

Jasmine considered asking for details, but held back.

Why treat someone else’s life like daytime gossip?

Sierra gave Caleb a light shove on the shoulder.

“Honestly, the guy went easy on you. Trying to mess with something like that? Pretty low.”

Caleb let out a sigh. “Mess with what? The person he loved passed away five years ago.”

A heavy silence fell over Jasmine and Sierra.

That wasn’t just sad-it was tragic.

Ethan broke the quiet.

“Alright, that’s enough about him. Let’s try to lighten the mood.”

Someone from a nearby table waved them over.

“Mr. Brooks! Jasmine! Come join us-the more the merrier!”

Sierra was already heading over. “What’re you playing?”

“Truth or Dare.”

“Oh, I love that game!” Sierra beamed. “Come on, everyone, let’s get in on this!”

Even though Sierra hadn’t been with the company long, her outgoing nature had already won her plenty of friends.

She was the kind of woman who could hang with the guys-no wonder Caleb often teased her about not being “ladylike”.

At that moment, she was settling between two male coworkers when Caleb squeezed his way in.

“Count me in.”

Sierra shot him a playful look. “Isn’t this a company event? Why are you crashing?”

“If that’s how you want to play it,” Caleb retorted, “next time Thorne Enterprises has a party, don’t even think about showing up.”

Sierra laughed. She’d forgotten that both Caleb and Jasmine were still shareholders in Thorne Enterprises.

Jasmine didn’t have much hands-on management experience, so Caleb handled most of the group’s affairs himself.

He might come across as a carefree playboy, but when it came to business, he was more thorough and steady than anyone. That was something Sierra truly admired about him.

The group cleared the head of the table for Ethan, who took his seat. As Jasmine looked for a spot, Caleb gently nudged her forward.

“Go sit next to Ethan.”

Jasmine didn’t overthink it—especially since everyone had made room-and took the seat beside him.

The rules were simple: whoever drew the king card would be the “question master”. The master could call any number, and the person holding that card had to choose truth or dare.

Truth meant answering one personal question. Dare meant performing a specific challenge, Refusing both meant taking a penalty-drinking a full glass of red wine.

To avoid the drink, most people picked one or the other.

On the very first round, Sierra’s number was called.

“Truth!” she declared.

The question master asked, “What’s the one food you absolutely hate?”.

Before Sierra could answer, Caleb covered her mouth.

“Seriously? That’s your question? Why not ask what she had for breakfast?”

The master laughed. “Just warming up! I didn’t want to start too strong and make Sierra mad.”

“You don’t know our Sierra very well, then,” Caleb said, grinning. “Her best trait is that she doesn’t hold

grudges. Don’t hold back-ask something better.”

Sierra flashed a tight smile. “Caleb, are you trying to get yourself killed?”

“Even if I go down,” he winked, “I’m taking you with me.”

Seeing their back-and-forth, the question master seized the moment.

“Alright, new question: Sierra, is there anyone here tonight that you’re attracted to?”

Sierra didn’t hesitate. “Yes.”

“Who?”

“That’s a follow-up,” she said smoothly. “You’ll have to catch me again.”

Famous last words. Some things really shouldn’t be said out loud.

Sure enough, Sierra’s number came up again.
