Chapter 244 The Morning After
Chapter 244 The Morning After
“Happy now?”
Caleb knew exactly what he was getting at.
“Got a free sports car out of the deal. Of course I’m happy.”
Ethan couldn’t care less about the car. He wasn’t annoyed-just amused.
“Only you would think to blackmail me with my own stuff.”

“Well, since we’re on the subject,” Caleb said, leaning back, “let me tell you how I got that necklace. Bet you’ve been itching to ask.”
He went on to explain how his people had lifted it off Chloe during the robbery he’d arranged.
Ethan fell quiet for a moment.
“Thanks.”
Caleb shot him a sideways glance.
“Do me a favor and don’t use that word with me. Makes it sound like you’re about to bail on me for some girl.”
“I’m not thanking you for getting the necklace back,” Ethan clarified.
His gratitude was for something else entirely.
Caleb let out a dry, humorless laugh.
“You know there’s no future in it. Why keep torturing yourself? You’re just making things harder.”
A faint shadow of sadness passed through Ethan’s eyes.
“You’re right.”
That threw Caleb off. “Hey, I wasn’t talking about you. I was talking about me. You-you should keep going.”
Ethan’s gaze drifted toward the graceful figure walking ahead of them.
“Being friends is enough.”
At least she was still in his life.
That was more than he could ask for.

Chapter 244 The Morning After
The next morning, Sierra woke up with a pounding headache.
She blinked, her vision blurry, and slowly registered that nothing around her looked familiar.
This definitely wasn’t her apartment.
She bolted upright, heart hammering, and turned toward the other side of the bed.
Someone was there, buried under the blankets, face hidden.
Sierra took a shaky breath and tugged the covers down.
Caleb was sound asleep, shirtless and sprawled out like he owned the place.
Gritting her teeth, she lifted her own sheet.
She was down to her bra and underwear-nothing else.
“Oh my god,” she gasped, and smacked him hard on the arm.
Caleb hated being woken up more than anything. His eyes flew open, anger flashing.
“The hell? You trying to die?”

But when he saw Sierra’s furious face glaring down at him, his expression shifted into a lazy grin.
“Morning, sweetheart. Sleep okay?”
Sierra forced the words out.
“Where are we?”
“My place,” Caleb said around a yawn. “First time, right? I’ll give you the grand tour later.”
Like hell.
“How did I end up here?”
“I brought you.”
“Why?” she demanded, voice tight. “What were you thinking, Caleb?”
“What was I thinking?” He propped himself up on one elbow. “What were you thinking, getting wasted like that? Should I have dropped you off at your parents’ place? Your mom would’ve skinned you alive.”
He wasn’t wrong. The Shu family was notoriously strict. Even someone as free-spirited as Sierra turned into a model daughter the second she stepped through their door.
The thought of her parents seeing her completely trashed-even if they didn’t actually skin her alive, they’d lecture her for weeks. Just imagining it sent a chill down her spine.

Chapter 244 The Morning After
She clutched the sheet tighter, struggling to form the question.
“Did we… you know?”
Caleb tilted his head, playing innocent.
“Did we what?”
“You know what I mean!”

“How am I supposed to know if you don’t say it?” he teased, that familiar smirk playing on his lips.
Sierra braced herself. “Did we sleep together?”
His free hand reached over, twirling a strand of her hair around his finger.
“A guy and a girl, alone, both a little heated… what do you think happened?”
Sierra froze, scrambling to remember.
Damn it. Her memory was completely blank. Blacking out after too many drinks was her worst habit-she really needed to stop.
Caleb’s fingers trailed lightly down her smooth arm.
“Who knew our Sierra was just as talented in bed as she is everywhere else…”
She slapped her hand over his mouth.
“Shut up!”
He peeled her hand away and kissed her knuckles.
“You have to take responsibility, sweetheart. I’m not the kind of guy who does this casually.”
Right. And you’re a real saint.
Sierra felt like crying, but no tears came. A heavy, sick feeling settled in her stomach.
“Stop lying. My clothes are still on!”
Caleb lifted the edge of the sheet deliberately.
“These two little things? I put them back on you afterward.”
