She had been wanting to bring it up, but something inside her held her back-a mix of hesitation and unease. After turning it over in her mind for what felt like ages, she finally gathered the courage to speak.
“Silas… do you think Chloe could delay her move overseas a bit longer? With the wedding coming up… 1 just feel like she should be there. It wouldn’t be the same without her.”
Silas’ expression tightened almost immediately.
“Did she talk to you? Ask you to put in a word for her?”
Felicity let out a soft, nervous laugh and leaned into his shoulder.
“You always see right through me. Makes me feel like I’m so obvious.”
But Silas’ tone cooled.
“Chloe’s arrangements aren’t open for discussion. She’s leaving next week.”
Getting her out of the country was the only way to ensure things stayed under control. If she stayed- given her impulsive streak-there was no telling what kind of scene she might cause next.
The Vances carried influence, but even they couldn’t keep smoothing over one mess after another.
Felicity’s heart sank. She had hoped her words might sway him, maybe make him reconsider. Instead, he shut it down without even pausing to think.
Did her feelings truly count for so little to him now? Once, no matter how willful she behaved or what she demanded, Silas would always humor her-endlessly patient, endlessly yielding.
She wasn’t ready to let it go.
“Not even until after the wedding? Chloe would be heartbroken. Just a little longer, that’s all I’m asking.”
Silas didn’t answer. Instead, his voice softened unexpectedly.
“Felicity… can we talk about something else?”
Felicity blinked, caught off guard.
“Wait-you’re asking to talk something over with me?”
Since when did he consult her about anything? He’d been making all the calls lately.
Silas took her hand, his gaze gentle but weary.
“About the wedding… what if we kept things low-key?”
“Low-key?” Felicity repeated, confused. “What does that mean?”

Chapter 243 Wedding Disagreement
“I mean… no big show. Just a quiet dinner with both families.”
A heavy lump formed in Felicity’s chest.
“But your grandmother and my dad both said it should be a real event…”

His grandmother had insisted that as a Sterling, she deserved nothing less than a proper celebration. What Silas was describing wasn’t just simple-it was barely a wedding at all.
A slow burn of anger began to rise inside her. This was crossing a line.
Hadn’t she waited all this time just to marry him in the way she’d always pictured-with everyone watching, everything perfect?
For the first time in a long while, she pulled her hand back.
“When you married her, the whole town was talking. Why does ours have to be ‘low-key’?”
Silas’ face hardened.
“Why are you bringing that up? That’s not the same.”
Now Felicity felt both hurt and defiant. Silas, in turn, was irritated-he hadn’t expected his usually gentle fiancée to push back like this.
“Besides,” he added sharply, “that big wedding in Rivercrest wasn’t just for her and me. Weren’t you and Julian getting married the same day?”
That one sentence left Felicity speechless.
He was right. It had been a double ceremony.
Realizing she’d spoken too harshly, Felicity quickly softened her tone.
“I just… I want it to be beautiful. I want to walk toward you feeling like it’s the best day of my life. That’s all I’m asking for. Can’t you give me that much?”
Her eyes grew wet.
“Silas… do I really matter so little to you?”
Silas reined in his temper and spoke more gently.
“Even if it’s simple, you’ll have everything you’re meant to have. The reason I don’t want a big wedding is the gossip. Half the people who show up-are they really there for us? Or are they just waiting for drama?
“They’ll say I left my wife and remarried in just three years. They’ll call me heartless.”
And that I’m marrying my own sister-in-law.
Felicity’s tears threatened to spill over.
