Chapter 26 A Sudden 400 Million Deposit
Those eyes were stunningly beautiful, but in that moment, they were chilling.
“Get lost! I don’t want to see you again!”
Jasmine smoothed her hair, opened the car door, and stepped out.
She turned and vanished into the night in an instant.
Silas watched her retreating figure and slammed his fist into the steering wheel.
He’d had a sudden opening in his schedule and wasn’t originally planning to pick her up.

But thinking about his refusal to lend her money and the grief Chloe had caused her, he wanted to surprise her.
Instead, he was the one surprised-finding his wife in the arms of another man.
Seeing Jasmine being held by Caleb had sent a surge of inexplicable rage through him.
“Silas.”
Silas had just parked and reached the door when Felicity rushed out to meet him.
He was still fuming, so his tone was naturally sharp.
“You’re still in your recovery month! What are you doing out here!”
Felicity looked hurt. “I saw your car idling out there for so long. I thought something was wrong.”
Silas was too frustrated to speak.
“I thought I saw Jasmine just now. Why didn’t she come in? It’s so late; where did she go?”
Silas was so angry he spoke without thinking.
“Where else? To meet a lover!”
Felicity froze. “Are you saying she-”
Silas caught himself. “I’m just joking. Her family had an emergency; she went back there.”
Felicity suddenly reached out and touched Silas’s cheek. “Silas, what happened to your face? It looks like someone hit you. Was it Jasmine?”
He pulled her hand away, his impatience growing. “Why would she hit me? You’re overthinking it.”
Then, a thought occurred to him. “Don’t go getting ideas. Don’t let Grandmother and Mom misunderstand her again and make her miserable.”

A dark shadow flickered in Felicity’s eyes at those words.
She had seen exactly what happened in the car just now.
If Madeline and Victoria knew the woman had struck Silas, her life in this house would be over,
But to her surprise, Silas was actually covering for Jasmine.
Could it be…
“Silas, don’t worry. I won’t overthink it. I know how much you care about her.”
Silas paused for several seconds. “I care about her?”
Felicity watched his expression closely. “Don’t you?”
Silas was silent again.
About half a minute later, he let out a cold laugh.
“How could I possibly care about that woman!”
The weight in Felicity’s heart lifted slightly, but a lingering unease remained.
“Let’s go inside. Don’t stand out here.”
Felicity assumed he was worried about her health and beamed. “It’s fine. I’m dressed very warmly.”
“It’s not good if people see us,” Silas said coldly.
The smile froze on Felicity’s face.
The “not good” part of his sentence felt like a needle to her heart.
She hid the pain behind a soft, delicate smile. “Let’s go in, then. Leo misses you.”
Jasmine returned to the hotel to get her car. After some thought, she decided not to return to the Thorne
manor.
Going back would only mean an interrogation from Eleanor and worry from Arthur.
So, she booked a room at the hotel instead.
The fight with Silas hadn’t dampened her mood in the slightest.
After all, the mantis stalks the cicada, unaware of the oriole behind.
She really had to thank Felicity for her habit of spying.
How else would she have gotten such a spectacular shot?

Silas had been hit; Felicity was bound to be heartbroken.
And in her heartbreak, she was bound to take some very interesting photos.
Jasmine took a hot shower and lay down comfortably.
A text arrived from Sierra.
[The angle is perfect, the photo is clear. Get some sleep. Get ready for tomorrow’s surprise.
Jasmine’s lips curved into a meaningful arc.
[If things go well, tomorrow will be a double celebration.]
