Chapter 60 One of Us

Wanting to whisper something, Zack kept his voice down. “Mr. Brooks…”

Ethan raised a hand, gesturing for him to be quiet. Zack took the hint and shut his mouth.

Jasmine read through the entire document in one breathless sitting. When she finally looked up, she found both men watching her with amused smiles.

She gave an embarrassed laugh. “I am so sorry. Sometimes I get like this-once I get sucked into something, I completely tune out the rest of the world.”

“Don’t worry about it,” Ethan replied warmly. “Take your time. I’m going to step away to the restroom for a moment.”

Because of Ethan’s casual “one of us” remark earlier, Zack felt a lot more comfortable letting his guard down.

“Ms. Thorne, I heard you graduated from Rivercrest University?” Zack asked.

“I did,” Jasmine replied.

“Even though I’ve been based in Portshire with Mr. Brooks until recently, I’ve always known about Rivercrest,” Zack said. “It’s famous for turning out incredible talent.”

Jasmine smiled. “It’s a good school.”

“I actually heard that the former vice leader of the K-Alliance-that legendary hacker ‘Storm-went to Rivercrest, too,” Zack noted.

Jasmine kept her face perfectly expressionless. “So I’ve heard.”

There was no point in dwelling on past glories.

She figured it was better to keep her identity as Storm to herself.

Zack’s eyes filled with genuine admiration. “I heard she did so much good completely on her own- stopping foreign cyberattacks, fighting online crime, helping the police track down fugitives, you name it. She’s incredibly talented. It’s a shame no one knows who she actually is.”

Jasmine took a slow sip of her coffee, smiling without a word.

“Even Mr. Brooks couldn’t track her down,” Zack sighed. “I guess I have zero chance of ever meeting a top- tier hacker like that in this lifetime.”

Jasmine let out a soft laugh. “You admire her that much?”

“Of course! Character, ability-she has it all. How could anyone not admire her? It’s the same way I look up to Mr. Brooks.”

“Ethan is certainly exceptional,” Jasmine agreed. She couldn’t deny that. From his manners and

communication to his sheer talent and leadership skills, he was flawless. Factor in his striking looks, and the combination was downright lethal.

Zack’s eyes lit up. “Exactly! Mr. Brooks is one in a million. I mean, there’s a reason he was the leader of the K-Alliance back then.”

Jasmine froze, the coffee cup stalling right against her lips. She held it there for a long moment.

Noticing her sudden stillness, Zack blinked. “Ms. Thorne? Are you okay?”

Jasmine snapped back to reality and slowly lowered her cup. “What did you just say?”

“I said Mr. Brooks is one in a million.”

“The next part.”

“There’s a reason he was the leader of the K-Alliance,” Zack repeated.

Jasmine’s breath caught in her throat. “So… Ethan is King?”

Back then, the alliance members only interacted online, remaining complete strangers in real life. They handled everything through the alliance’s group chat, rarely communicating privately. Jasmine, however, was the only one who had developed a close rapport with the leader, King.

Everyone assumed Storm had fought every battle single-handedly and flawlessly. No one knew that there was an even more powerful expert backing her up. King had been like an omnipotent god to her; whenever Storm ran into a problem she couldn’t solve, King was always there to help her crack it. Given Jasmine’s natural tendency to respect strength, she had utterly worshiped King, holding him in the absolute highest regard.

Unfortunately, their bond had never moved past the screen. Back then, she had desperately wanted to meet him in person to see what kind of man he actually was. Regrettably, it never happened.

When the alliance disbanded a few years later, their connection came to an abrupt end.

She never could have imagined…

The private room door had barely cracked open when a familiar voice floated inside.

|| “Ethan.”

That voice…

Why did it sound exactly like Chloe?

That girl always used that exact sweet, sugary tone whenever she was acting spoiled. Pair that voice with her innocent face, and it was easy to mistake her for a harmless young girl. In reality, she was a little terror.

“Ms. Vance,” Ethan replied.

It really was her!
