How to Train Your Ex-Billionaire novel Chapter 109

After York left, Winifred said, "Why are you getting so angry with them? It's not worth risking your health over."

"People will walk all over you if you're too nice," Yvan said, frowning. "Don't worry, I'll consult a lawyer about this. If we have to sue, we'll sue. As your employer, the hospital has a responsibility to bear."

She had always been so gentle, never making a sound even when she was bullied.

It was the same back in high school. She would hear people calling her a country bumpkin, laughing at her, and she would act as if she hadn't heard a thing.

"Yvan, you really don't have to," Winifred said. "I have my own way of handling things."

She was already planning to resign, so it was better to avoid making a bigger mess. Besides, if it came to a lawsuit, it would be a huge hassle since she would be in Portside by then.

Yvan frowned. "And what's your way of handling things? Just letting them bully you?"

Winifred was annoyed. "Don't worry about how I handle it. Your way doesn't necessarily work for me. You're a Brown. You can afford to be reckless. I'm just an ordinary person. We're different. If I go against my superiors, I'm just shooting myself in the foot."

After saying it, Winifred felt a pang of regret. He was only trying to help her. Weren't her words just throwing his kindness back in his face?

Yvan fell silent.

He really hadn't considered that. In his world, if you were bullied, you fought back. Offending a superior meant nothing. Who cared about a boss? You could just quit and find another hospital.

Winifred expected him to get angry and storm off, but he didn't. Instead, after a moment of silence, he said, "I'm sorry. I wasn't thinking."

A strange feeling fluttered in Winifred's chest.

Yvan seemed to have changed so much. He had become much softer with her.

She lowered her eyes. "I didn't mean to criticize you. You're doing this because you see me as a friend, and I'm grateful. But we are just friends. When you do so much for me, it makes me feel guilty."

Yvan was silent again.

She was constantly reminding him of their 'just friends' status.

Winifred knew he was unhappy, but she didn't say anything more. She lay down. "I'm going to take a nap. You can leave if you have things to do."

She'd had visitors all morning, and then that awful incident at noon. She was exhausted.

She fell asleep in minutes.
