How to Train Your Ex-Billionaire novel Chapter 168

“Ms. Spencer, we’ve looked into it, and it was all just a misunderstanding,” the officer said. “The man was just using a telescope to look at the scenery. He’s very sorry for the misunderstanding he caused. He won't be using the telescope anymore.”

“Are you sure you investigated thoroughly?” Winifred took out the photo she had just taken and showed it to them. “Look, this lens is clearly pointed at my balcony. You can’t see the scenery from my apartment, can you?”

The two officers exchanged a glance. One of them said, “Ms. Spencer, we really did question him thoroughly. The man is not a threat, and we can assure you he won't do anything to harm you.”

“You can assure me? How can you do that?” Winifred was getting angry. “Did you find out what he does for a living? Does he have a criminal record or anything?”

The officer replied, “No, no criminal record. He works for a legitimate company. Here’s his business card. You can rest assured.”

The officer handed her a business card. Winifred took it and read: RockFred Investments. Executive Assistant, Fitch.

Winifred was still skeptical, but since the police had said their piece, there was nothing more she could do.

She decided that if she noticed any more strange activity from next door, she would call the police again. She refused to believe that the law couldn't handle him.

The next evening, there was a knock on Winifred’s door.

Winifred looked through the peephole and saw the young tenant from next door, with a property manager standing beside him.

Winifred opened the door, on her guard. “Can I help you?”

“Hello, Ms. Spencer. This is Fitch, your neighbor,” the property manager said with a smile. “He has something he’d like to discuss with you.”

Winifred looked at Fitch.

Fitch immediately smiled. “Hello, Ms. Spencer. I wanted to apologize for what happened last night. I was worried you might be scared, so I asked the property manager to come with me. I hope you don’t mind.”

“Oh, I see.” Winifred was a bit surprised.

She suddenly felt a bit embarrassed.

Maybe she really had misunderstood him and had even called the police. But he didn't seem to hold a grudge at all. Not only that, but he had personally come to apologize and brought her a gift.

He had even been thoughtful enough to bring the property manager along.

Winifred felt guilty for her earlier suspicions. The young man looked so decent; how could he be a peeping tom?

The more she thought about it, the more she felt she owed him an apology. She decided to get a gift for Fitch as well, as a gesture of goodwill.

Coincidentally, Karen had recently sent her some local specialties from Zion—pastries and cookies. She hadn't opened them yet, so they would make a perfect gift.

But it would seem a bit abrupt to take them over now. She would wait a couple of days.
