How to Train Your Ex-Billionaire novel Chapter 171

Fitch came in and said respectfully, “Mr. Brown, it seems Ms. Spencer was apologizing for calling the police before. She gave me two boxes of local delicacies from Zion.”

Yvan looked at the gift boxes in his hands. “Give them to me.”

Fitch placed them in front of him. Yvan saw two boxes of pastries: one of palmiers, and one of almond crisps.

“What else did she say?”

“Nothing else,” Fitch replied.

“Alright, you can go,” Yvan said, waving him away.

“Yes, Mr. Brown.” Fitch turned to leave.

Suddenly, Yvan stopped him. “Find a place to live in a nearby complex tomorrow. If something like today happens again, you can get here quickly.”

Fitch felt a wave of despair. “...Yes, Mr. Brown.”

After Fitch left, Yvan picked up one of the gift boxes, opened it, and started eating a palmier.

He had grown up in Zion and had gotten tired of these two local treats long ago; normally, he wouldn't even give them a second glance.

But now, they tasted different, special—because they were from her.

...

One day, as Winifred was about to leave work, her colleague, Steven Lopez, suddenly called out to her.

“Winifred, are you busy tonight? Want to grab dinner? My treat.”

“I’m free. But why the sudden invitation?”

Steven smiled. “I heard a new restaurant opened up at Celestial Plaza that’s supposed to be really good. I wanted to see if you’d like to try it with me.”

“Shouldn’t you be asking your girlfriend to a place like that?” Winifred joked.

She knew Steven had a girlfriend; they had been together since college.

Celestial Plaza wasn’t far, and Steven and Winifred soon arrived at the restaurant.

After ordering, they started making small talk.

But Winifred kept feeling as if someone was watching her. She glanced around the crowded restaurant but didn’t notice anything out of the ordinary.

Was she just being overly sensitive?

“What’s wrong, Winifred?” Steven asked.

“Nothing, it’s just...I’ve been feeling like someone is watching me lately,” Winifred said, troubled. “On my way to and from work, too. But I haven’t actually seen anyone.”

Steven immediately looked concerned. “That’s not something to take lightly. As a single woman, you could attract the wrong kind of attention. How about I drive you to and from work for a while?”

“Oh, no, it’s probably just me being paranoid,” Winifred replied quickly. “I think I’m just feeling this way because I’m in a new environment and haven’t fully adjusted. There are security cameras everywhere these days; there can’t be any creeps around, right?”

“Better safe than sorry,” Steven said gravely. “What if there really is a creep? If he follows you home, and you live alone… that’s incredibly dangerous. No, you have to let me give you rides for a while. If someone is following you, they’ll see you have company and will likely back off.”
