How to Train Your Ex-Billionaire novel Chapter 248

“It’s your fault, but you blame your employee,” Winifred snorted. “I don’t believe you. Like I said, if this happens again, I’m taking Teresa’s five million and living it up.”

As she said this, she made a move to turn around. “In fact, maybe I should just go agree to her offer right now.”

Yvan quickly grabbed her. “Don’t, Winifred. This time it’s for real, Teresa won’t bother you again. If you want five million, I’ll give it to you. I’ll wine and dine you, and I’ll even throw in my services in bed. It’s a much better deal.”

Winifred eyed him. “With five million, I can wine and dine myself, have a pretty boy wait on me, and swap him out when I get bored.”

Yvan’s eyes suddenly darkened. He pulled her waist against him and whispered in her ear, “Can any other man compare to your husband? Didn’t you say I was the best in the world?”

On the busy street, Winifred’s face instantly flushed. She struggled out of his embrace. “Yvan, how can you be so shameless?”

Yvan’s lips curved. He leaned in and nipped her earlobe. “You’re the one who said it, not me.”

Winifred, embarrassed, quickly broke free from him, shot him a glare, and hurried forward.

Yvan chuckled, a glint in his eye. He took out his phone and called Fitch. “Fitch, transfer five million into Winifred’s account for me right now.”

Then he quickened his pace to catch up with her.

He took her hand. “Winifred, don’t walk so fast.”

Winifred tried to shake him off but couldn't. She turned and glared at him again. “I told you not to come pick me up. Why are you here again?”

Yvan said, “I missed you.”

“It’s only a ten-minute walk. Do you have to be so clingy?”

Yvan’s thumb stroked the back of her hand. “I wish I could be stuck to you every second of the day.”

“You clingy man,” Winifred grumbled, but the corners of her lips were tilting upward.

...

Back at her apartment, Yvan went to the kitchen to bring out the food. Winifred sat at the dining table, scrolling through her phone, when a notification from her bank popped up.

She assumed it was her paycheck and casually tapped it open.

When she saw the long string of zeros, she thought her eyes were playing tricks on her.

Winifred froze.

She wasn't sure at all.

She knew Yvan loved her deeply right now; she didn't doubt his sincerity.

But whether they could make it to the end depended on so many other factors.

Their family backgrounds were too different, and they had grown up in completely different environments. This inevitably meant their mindsets and values were not the same.

When they were in college, their relationship had always been long-distance.

Now, they had just gotten back together and were in the honeymoon phase, so these differences didn't seem to affect their relationship.

But what would happen when the passion faded? Would these differences become magnified? Would they find they weren't compatible? Would they argue over things?

Winifred was a pessimist, and a string of anxiety was always pulled taut inside her.
