How to Train Your Ex-Billionaire novel Chapter 99

Winifred didn’t answer Yvan’s question first. Instead, she said to Stella, “Stella, you have work tomorrow, so you should head home early. Thank you for everything today.”

“It’s nothing, I was just helping out,” Stella said knowingly, picking up her bag. “I’ll go now. The caregiver is right outside, just call if you need her. And call me if anything comes up.”

“Okay, thank you.”

“And eat your dinner while it’s hot,” Stella added, gesturing to the food on the small table before she left.

After Stella was gone, Winifred finally turned to Yvan. “I’m fine, it’s just a minor injury. Why did you come? And you brought Murphy.”

“We were at the playground across from the hospital,” Yvan explained. “Murphy wanted to play with you, but then we heard you were hospitalized, so he insisted on coming to see you.”

“Uncle, you’re lying. I didn’t insist. It was you who wanted to see Winifred,” Murphy suddenly blurted out.

Yvan cleared his throat uncomfortably, explaining as if to himself, “I’m Dr. Spencer’s friend. It’s normal for me to visit her.”

Winifred pretended not to understand. “Thank you both. But I’m really okay. Yvan, you should take Murphy home. This is a hospital; the air isn’t clean, and there are a lot of germs.”

Yvan glanced around the room. “Is there no one here to take care of you?”

“My colleague hired a caregiver for me,” Winifred said.

Yvan frowned. “What about your family? Aren’t they coming to look after you?”

Winifred lowered her gaze. “My mother has to work, and my injury isn’t that serious. Why would I call her? The caregiver is enough.”

Yvan’s lips tightened.

He knew her parents were divorced and her mother had remarried.

But her mother and stepfather also lived in Zion, yet Winifred was renting an apartment alone. It was clear that her relationship with her mother wasn’t very good.

“I’ll take Murphy home first,” Yvan said. “Then I’ll come back.”

“There’s no need,” Winifred said, her grip tightening on the bedsheet. “I have a caregiver.”

Yvan said, “I still have questions for you. I want to know how you got hurt.”

“It was just a typical incident with a disgruntled patient,” Winifred said dismissively. “There’s nothing to talk about.”

“Has the matter been resolved?”

“The hospital is negotiating with the patient.” Winifred didn’t want to get into the details with Yvan.

Yvan didn’t press further. He picked up Murphy. “Say goodbye to Winifred. We’re leaving now.”
