Lira’s POV:

Right after that, she kept going. “If you didn’t smell like an Omega, I’d bet you’re an alpha from some secret pack.”

I calmed down quickly. I knew she was just rambling.

As long as I kept my mouth shut, no one would ever find out my real rank.

I took a deep breath, leaned back on the sofa, sipped my drink, and glanced at Alfred on the other sofa our of the corner of my eye. Then I turned to Sally and asked, “What about you? Why aren’t you dancing?”

“I can’t dance either,” Sally said, taking a sip of her drink. Her eyes drifted off somewhere, and her face got a little down.

I followed her gaze. Alfred was leaning back on the sofa, and his mate Anna was sitting next to him, peeling nuts and feeding them to his mouth.

Alfred smiled at her softly and ate the nut.

“Mr. Combs, you’re truly blessed–you’ve found a mate who’s perfect for you.”

Alfred looked at Anna, smiling softly with a proud grin. “Yeah, I love girls like Anna. And lucky me—we’re fated mates.”

Anna beamed when she heard that, looking totally pleased.

Yolanda linked arms with Anna, teasing her, “My cousin Anna’s only this gentle and sweet around Alfred. In the army, she’s a total badass–she can take on dozens of high–rank male werewolf soldiers all alone!”

“Cousins? You two are cousins?” I asked, surprised.

“Yeah, can’t you tell? Everyone says we look alike. Isn’t that right, Steve?” Yolanda looked at Steve beside her, all shy and cute.

Steve just smiled and said nothing–he just sat there drinking.

Yolanda looked a little awkward when Steve ignored her, but she got over it fast. She turned to Sally, smiling. “Sally, do you have any plans for the holiday?”

Sally shook her head. “Not yet.” Her voice was cold and distant.

Yolanda suddenly perked up. “Why don’t we go on vacation to the beach by Silverwhip Pack’s border? The weather there is perfect right now. What do you say?”

I watched her closely, keeping a straight face.

I saw right through her. She was trying so hard to get close to Sally.

She wanted to use Sally to get closer to Steve.
