Chapter 14 The Man Named Kael
Lira’s POV:
The sudden grab shocked me!
My body went tight. I was about to call on Victoria’s power to fight back, but the man was faster.
Finishe
He twisted my wrist behind my back. A strong force pushed me down. Warm breath brushed my ear. A tingling feeling spread from the curve of my ear down my neck.
“Let go!”
I struggled, but his grip was like iron. My voice came out cold. “If you’re so brave, fight me fair. This sneaky move is cheap.”
A low laugh sounded by my ear. His voice was deep, with a teasing edge. “You really are a feisty little thing.”
The pressure on my arm eased. I spun around and threw a punch. He caught my wrist easily.
A familiar scent hit me. I looked up and met a pair of deep eyes.
His face was like a work of art–all sharp angles and stunning looks. A faint smile played on his lips. He looked at me with pure amusement.
It was him. The badly injured man I’d saved in the forest. At the edge of the Hidmoon Pack territory.
I froze. A glint of something playful flashed in his eyes.
His fingertips brushed over the skin of my wrist. A clear, unique scent wrapped around me. It made Victoria stir with a strange excitement.
Earlier, when I’d tried to use her strength against him, she had hesitated. It confused me. Annoyed me.
But I had no time to ask her about it now. The man’s face was inches from mine.
His warm breath made my skin prickle.
I jerked back, putting space between us. I pressed a hand hard against his chest. “What do you want?” I snapped.
How did he find me?
And why grab me like this?
The corners of his eyes crinkled with his smile. That deep, magnetic, lazy voice spoke by my ear. “Little one, I’m here to return the favor.
“How about marrying me as payment?”
My whole body went stiff. I scrambled back toward the car door, putting as much distance between us as I could.

Chapter 14 The Man Named Kael
Finished
I should have known. This man had “dangerous” written all over him from the start. I never should have gotten involved. Never should have saved him.
But as a member of the Hidmoon Pack… saving him was my duty.
I let out a frustrated sigh.
I wrapped my arms around myself and kept backing up until I was pressed against the door. Nowhere else
to go.
Watching my defensive little moves, he suddenly chuckled. The chuckle grew into a real laugh–deep, hearty, and full of genuine amusement.
The driver up front seemed to flinch at the sound. The car gave a tiny jolt.
Clearly, he’d never heard his boss laugh like that before.
Victoria showed no desire to fight him. Lily was long gone, scared into hiding by his aura.
Trapped, I just glared at him. Then I turned my head and stared silently out the window, ignoring him.
