Chapter 144 Unexpected Run-In
Lira’s POV:
Steve looked a little excited, grinning. “Lira? Is that really you? As soon as I walked in, my wolf spirit smelled you. I thought he was wrong.
“Never thought you’d be at Graymarch Pack too.”
I smiled softly. “Steve, long time no see.”
“Long time no see,” he said back.

Right after he spoke, a young girl walked up from behind him, pouting and acting cute. “Steve, why’d you leave me behind? Wait for me!”
“Yeah, Steve, why’d you walk so fast all by yourself?” Another familiar voice popped up.
I looked up behind Steve-and there were Yolanda, Anna, and Alfred.
They had a bunch of strong guys in black guarding them. From their scent, they were all high-rank wolf
warriors.
I couldn’t help but laugh. Steve, the alpha heir of Silverwhip Pack, always showed up with a bigger crowd than Kael.
Kael was always super low-key when he was out.
I realized I was thinking about Kael again. I quickly looked back at Steve, trying to take my mind off it. “Steve, are you here for a trip, or…?”
Steve smiled, looking a little helpless. “C’mon, with such a big stone gambling event here, how could I miss it? Alfred and the others are here for a trip-they said they’ve never seen a stone gambling event, so they tagged along.”
Yolanda glanced at me, looking super annoyed. “Steve, is this Omega your friend?”
I remembered Yolanda-I met her once before. She stood out, but she didn’t recognize me this time. Her memory and sense of smell… she didn’t seem like a high-rank werewolf.
I was thinking that when Alfred walked over before Steve could introduce me. “Ms. Krom, nice to see you again,” he said.
I smiled faintly. “Mr. Combs, what a coincidence.
I didn’t really like Alfred. Probably because he hurt Sally emotionally.
My wolf spirits Lily and Victoria didn’t mind him, though. Deep down, he wasn’t a bad guy.
Yolanda cut in again, pointing at me. “You’re the girl who was with Steve’s sister at the bar the other day.
I nodded. “Yeah, nice to meet you properly.

Yolanda looked at me, scoffing, “You’re one tricky Omega. Not only did you get into Graymarch Pack, but you’re at an event like this? Bet you got here by sucking up to someone, letting them bring you in.”
I glanced at her, not caring, and said coldly, “That’s none of your business. No matter how I got here, it has nothing to do with you.”
“You little Omega-how dare you talk to me like that?!” Yolanda got so mad that her wolf eyes lit up right
away.
I stared at her, calm as can be.
Steve snapped at her, loud and sharp, “Enough! If you wanna stay here, shut up. Otherwise, we’ll split up for the rest of the trip.”
Yolanda looked shocked-she never thought Steve would yell at her to defend me.
She froze, staring at Steve with a hurt look on her face.
Steve didn’t even glance at her, and she didn’t dare say another word.
If I remembered right, she was a pure-blood noble werewolf descendant. To be this desperate for a guy… I really looked down on her.
I glanced at her, rolling my eyes a little. Steve looked at me. “Don’t let what she said bother you.”
I just smiled softly and didn’t say anything back.
Right then, a worker pushed a cart of rough stones over, speaking politely. “Ms. Krom, all the paperwork’s done.”
“Thanks,” I said.
Steve stared at the cart, shocked. “Did you buy all these?”
I nodded. “Yeah, I picked them out from the outer area. Gonna go get ’em cut now.”
“C’mon, we’re old friends,” Steve said, serious. “If you wanna sell them after cutting, let me be the first to know, okay?”
I smiled and nodded. “Sure-whoever pays the most gets them.”
Steve laughed, helpless. “You’re still the same-such a money lover.”
Then he followed me to the stone-cutting area.
Alfred and the others said they’d never seen stones being cut, so they tagged along too.
When we got to the stone-cutting area, there were already a lot of people-some cutting stones, some watching.
We went to an empty machine. The worker put my rough stones on the cutting table.

The stone-cutter looked at the stones and asked me, “Do you want me to mark the lines first?”

I glanced at the stones, picked up a pen, and drew a few lines on them. Then I said, “Cut ’em right where I drew.”
Truth is, I could tell the quality and size of the gems inside just by looking. Cutting them was just going through the motions.
Steve saw me draw those lines so casually, looking worried. “You sure that’s right?
“Picking stones is serious stuff. You wanna check again?”
I smiled, calm and confident. “Yeah, I’m sure. My gut’s always right.” I winked at him.
Steve smiled at me, and before I knew it, he’d moved a little closer to me.
When he got near, I smelled his scent-and my wolf spirit Lily suddenly got all excited, for no reason.
That was weird. She never acted like that before.
I was shocked and about to think more about it, when Yolanda’s mocking voice popped up right next to me. “Picking stones isn’t about gut feelings. If every businessman went by their gut, they’d lose all their
money.
“So if you don’t know what you’re doing, stop pretending. A low-rank Omega like you belongs doing servant work-not picking stones. It’s not for you.”
