The man gave a non-committal hum, not looking up for a long moment. When he finally did, I was struck by his sharp, chiseled features and those narrowed, predatory eyes.

He reeked of raw power-a high-rank Alpha whose combat spirit felt like a loaded gun. From the way Victoria was bristling inside me, this guy’s combat level was probably on par with Kael Thorne.

I recognized him instantly as the man from the Graymarch auction. I didn’t bother with pleasantries. “I don’t suppose you kidnapped me just for a chat, did you?”

The guard turned and slipped out, clicking the door shut. The room fell into a heavy, suffocating silence where only our breathing could be heard.
