Chapter 192 The Ghosts of Brookstone

Lira Voss’s POV:

“Sister, I love your room. Give it to me, okay?”

“Sister, Dad is never going to love anyone but my mother.”

“Sister, my mother is the only true Luna of the Brookstone Pack. Your mother is just a corpse”

The voices from my past flooded back like a tidal wave, crushing the air out of my lungs. I stumbled back two steps, my heart hammering against my ribs.

I didn’t know how to face her. Not yet.

Kael Thorne’s POV:

I felt the change in Lira instantly. It was like she’d been plunged into a nightmare, her face twisted in a look of sheer agony. It was a side of her I’d never seen-vulnerable and haunted. It made my blood run cold.

I followed her gaze to the two women who had just walked in.

One of them spotted me and gasped, her voice bright with surprise. “Mr. Thorne? What a coincidence! I didn’t expect to run into you here.”

She hurried toward me, her face flushed with a mix of practiced shyness and excitement. “You don’t remember me? We met at the Elder Council gala a while back.

“I wanted to reach out, but I didn’t know which Pack you were from, and I didn’t have your contact information.”

I stared at the woman. Then it clicked. She was the one from the gala who had annoyed me and my wolf, Zeus. She clearly had no idea who I actually was-the Alpha King-otherwise, she wouldn’t be babbling at me without bowing first.

I looked at her with ice-cold indifference. “And you are?”

Isla Bennett’s POV:

My entire body stiffened. I couldn’t believe he was snubbing me like this. Everywhere I go, men treat ine like a goddess.

For years, Alphas with massive influence have been tripping over themselves to mark me, begging to be my mate. I’ve never been treated like an invisible nobody in my life.

Chapter 1924The Ghosts of Brookstone

While I was standing there speechless, my cousin, Ruby Voss, was staring at the man with wide, hungry eyes. She nudged me, whispering urgently, “Isla, who is he?”

I tried to keep my voice steady. “This is Mr. Thorne” I only knew his surname, but based on how the old- money elites had bowed to him at the gala, I knew he was powerful.

He was a mystery I wanted to solve.

“Hello, Mr. Thorne. I’m Ruby Voss, Isla’s cousin. Ruby immediately reached out her hand, her eyes sparkling with flirtatious intent.

Kael Thorne’s POV:

I was certain of it now. It was this girl’s voice that had triggered Lira’s reaction.

Ruby kept her hand extended, giving me a practiced, high-society smile. “It’s a pleasure. I’m the daughter of the Brookstone Alpha.

I didn’t even look at her hand. I ignored her completely and turned back to Lira, my voice dropping into a soft, concerned murmur. “Lira? Do you want to keep looking, or are we done?”
