Howl of Destiny: Alpha Lira’s Legend
Chapter 22 Intervening in the Alley
Lira’s POV
Finished
I followed the scent of blood to a narrow alleyway. The place was pitch dark. The air was thick with the sour smell of garbage and fresh blood. It turned my stomach.
“Travis Bailey, you picked a fight with the wrong person. Someone paid good money to end you. We’re just doing our job.”
An arrogant male voice rang out, followed by a round of rough laughter.
When I caught the scent of the attacking werewolves, both Victoria and Lily tensed up inside me, ready for a fight.
My wolf eyes glowed in the dark, finally letting me see the scene clearly. Several big, rough–looking men in black surrounded a man on the ground.
That man was sprawled out, covered in wounds. Victoria told me his wolf spirit was fading fast. He was badly hurt.
“Just kill me now, Otherwise, I’ll make you pay for this a thousand times over!” Even gravely injured, his voice was strong, full of fight.
The men in black laughed again. “You hear that? He’s still making threats!
“Oh, I’m terrified. How are you gonna make us pay?”
One of them stepped forward. He kicked the man hard in the chest and swore. “Damn it, still got a mouth on you!” Then he shifted a claw and started hitting and kicking him again.
The others just stood by, laughing, showing no mercy.
I’d been standing there watching them for a while. Not one of them had noticed me. That meant their rank, their power… it was all below Victoria’s.
With that thought, I stepped out of the shadows and walked toward them.
“Shit! Who the hell are you? Where did you come from?!”
In an instant, all the men stopped and stared at me, shocked.
I just raised an eyebrow, looking them over with clear disdain.
They exchanged glances. One of them bared his wolf eyes and snarled at me, “Get lost! Mind your own business, or you’re next!”
1 acted like I didn’t hear him. I kept walking closer, crossed my arms and sneered, “Looks like fun. Mind if I join?”
At first, they were wary. They stared at me for a long moment. Then their looks changed. They looked at me like I was an idiot. “A lowly Omega, sticking her nose in? You got a death wish?”

“Boss, before we tear her throat out, let my wolf have some fun with her! She’s pretty.” Another man stared at me with greedy, dirty eyes.
I casually twisted a strand of my hair around my finger and mocked, “If you’re gonna fight, come at me together. I don’t have all night.”
“You bitch! Asking for it!”
They cursed, their claws extending, sharp fangs flashing as they lunged at me.
“Watch out!” the injured man on the ground, Travis Bailey, shouted a warning.
My expression didn’t change. Using Victoria’s sharp reflexes, I shifted my body just enough to avoid their attacks.
I didn’t hand control over to Victoria. I just borrowed her speed. I moved through the circle of men so fast they couldn’t touch me.
