Chapter 33 He’s Willing to Wait
Lira’s POV:
As soon as I said that, Kael’s movements froze for a second.
Finished
His deep eyes had some emotion I couldn’t read, and then he spoke in a teasing tone. “How do you know I’m playing games with you? I told you before–I wanna repay you for saving my life by being yours.”
My cheeks got hot right away. I looked away awkwardly. “No need. Saving people’s my job–I’m a healing werewolf. Even if it wasn’t you in that cave, I would’ve saved them anyway.
“So don’t waste your time on me. I don’t have the energy to deal with this.”
I had my own revenge to take, my own duty as the Alpha heir of Hidmoon Pack to finish. I didn’t have time to play games with anyone’s heart.
Plus, after my family betrayed and used me at Brookstone Pack, I was even more scared to trust anyone easily.
I barely finished talking when a flash of sadness crossed Kael’s face.
He looked down, his voice low. “Since you saved me that day, we were meant to be. Maybe you’re the one the Moon Goddess sent to me.
“Nothing and no one can change that.
“I’m not asking you to say yes now. I just want you to give us a chance to get to know each other. Please?”
Looking at his hopeful eyes, my heart wavered for some reason.
Victoria suddenly spoke up in my head, sticking up for him. Lira, say yes! I can feel he’s being real with you.
I was torn again.
I didn’t know if I could trust Kael. My mind was a mess. I turned my head to avoid his eyes. “But I’m just an Omega. No power, no background. And guys like you–your families care about that stuff, right?
“Besides, you’re the Lycan King. Shouldn’t your mate be a pure–blood high–level werewolf? Do you really not care?” I asked him carefully, testing the waters.
Kael slowed the car to a stop, leaned down, and stared at me with his intense eyes. He said seriously, “When I pick a mate, I only care if I like her. It doesn’t matter what level werewolf she is.
“I’ve got all the fancy stuff already. You just need to grow up happy. Yeah, you’re an orphan–but I’ll work hard to be the one you can’t live without.”
His sudden, sincere confession threw me off.
Breathing in his nice scent, looking into his loving eyes, I almost lost my mind.
My heart was racing. I took a few deep breaths, trying to stay calm, but I still shook my head, confused. “I

don’t know.”
I was torn, hurt, and totally lost.
Kael stayed quict for a minute, then comforted me softly. “It’s okay if you don’t know now. I’ll wait. A year, two years, five years, ten years–however long it takes for you to trust me. And I’ve got all the patience and time to wait for you to grow up.”
Staring into his warm, loving eyes, I had no idea what to do. “I… I gotta go. I have stuff to do.”
I reached for the door to get out right away.
Kael grabbed my arm, pulling me back to look at him. His voice was low and gentle as he said seriously. “Don’t be mad at me. I gotta go to Gronveans for a while.
“While I’m gone, you gotta take care of yourself. If you have something you can’t fix, go find Leo.
“Take this time to think about it. But no matter what you decide, it won’t change my mind–I’m choosing you as my mate, no matter what. I’ll never let you go.”
Looking into his determined eyes, my heart skipped a beat…
