Chapter 39 A Life Saved
Lira’s POV:
The cry for help got louder and louder, slowly drowning out all the screams.

I pushed through the crowd and squeezed my way in. When I got there, people were standing in a circle, watching.
A girl was lying on the ground. Her face was bright red because she couldn’t breathe, and her hands were clutching her clothes tight.
I glanced at her and knew right off the bat–she was having a heart attack.
Victoria smelled it too. She was just a regular–level werewolf, with pretty average self–healing. That’s why she was in such bad shape when the attack hit.
Another girl stood next to her, making calls back to back and spouting off the address.
Looking at the girl on the ground, I knew the ambulance would never make it in time.
I walked straight over to her, ready to check on her.
But the girl next to her immediately glared at me, her wolf eyes sharp. “Who the hell are you? Can’t you see she’s having a heart attack? What’s an Omega doing here messing things up?!”
I blew her off, grabbed the sick girl’s hand, pressed my fingers to her pulse, and checked her over carefully.
Right then, another girl walked up. She had long hair down her back and a pretty face–soft and cute–and was wearing a white shirt and a plaid pleated skirt.
She frowned, her gentle voice sounding ticked off. “Miss, didn’t you hear her? Her friend’s having a heart attack. Messing with her like that could make it worse. If your stupidity causes something you can’t fix,、 who’s gonna take the fall?”
Once she finished talking, the students around us started yelling at me nonstop.
“Yeah, quit faking like you know what you’re doing! An Omega trying to play doctor? You out of your mind?!”
“This bitch–she’s just tryna get the popular guys to notice her!”
‘C’mon, haven’t you seen the popular guys standing right there?”
“This low–down Omega is so shameless…”
Their constant yammering made my wolf spirit, Victoria, lose her cool.
Let me take over. I wanna shut these losers up for good, right now!
I calmed Victoria down, then looked up at the girl who’d just spoken.

That’s when it clicked–she was the girl who got out of the sports car carlier. She had to be Barbara, the one everyone was gossiping about.
I glanced at her once, then ignored her again.
I pulled medical needles out of my bag and got ready to unbutton the sick girl’s jacket. But the girl next to her bared her sharp wolf fangs and yelled at me, “What do you think you’re doing?!
“Didn’t we tell you to leave her alone?!” She reached out to push me.
I grabbed her wrist mid–move and snapped, “If you don’t want your friend to die, get the hell out of my way.”
Then I jerked her hand away hard.
I let out a little bit of Victoria’s power for a second, then glared at everyone around me. The crowd went dead quiet, just like that.
I pulled open the girl’s jacket and stuck the needles in fast. Everyone watched, gasping like they couldn’t believe it.
As the needles went into her body, her breathing steadied out little by little, and her face wasn’t purple
anymore.
After a minute, her eyes slowly fluttered open.
“An angel… are you here to take me to heaven?” she asked, confused, staring straight at me.
I smiled at the girl, who was waking up. “Yeah, I’m an angel. But heaven doesn’t want you, so I’m sending you back.”
The looks on people’s faces changed–from hate and disgust to shock, even shame.
I didn’t give a crap about their stares. I focused on pulling the needles out of the girl, helped her sit gently, and asked, “How are you feeling now?”
up
“Good… real good. Every other attack was so painful, but this time it felt nice. Thank you,” the girl said, looking at me with grateful eyes.
“Oh, right! My name’s Virginia Wilson. What’s yours?”
I smiled and said, “Lira Krom.”
Just then, a few fancy cars pulled up. As soon as they stopped, the doors flew open. A high–level werewolf lady hurried out, walked straight to the girl, and said, “Virginia, are you okay?!”
She checked her over from head to toe. Virginia smiled, a little weak, took the lady’s hand, and said softly, “Mom, I’m fine. This is Lira Krom–she saved me.”
Then she pointed right at me.
The lady grabbed my hand right away, all excited. “Thank you! Thank you so much for saving Virginia.”

Her eyes were full of thanks–no hate at all for a low–level Omega.

I smiled at her and said, “It’s no big deal. If I can help, I can’t just stand there and watch someone die.” The Hidmoon Pack’s rule was to save lives. I never forgot that, no matter where I was.
‘But ma’am, you gotta know how bad Virginia’s ‘condition is. She can’t keep putting this off. If she has a few more attacks, there’s nothing anyone can do to save her.”
As she listened to me, her face got more and more shocked. Then her eyes turned red, and her voice got quiet. “You’re right. But we’ve looked everywhere and used all our people and money to find a cure. Nothing works. No doctor says they can fix her.”
Tears ran down her face as she talked.”
‘She’s my only daughter. What am I gonna do if something happens to her?!”
Virginia hugged her, trying to comfort her. “Mom, don’t cry. I’ll try my hardest to stay alive.”
I forgot what this kind of mother–daughter love felt like. But even so, it hit me right in the heart.
Right then, the ambulance finally showed up.
“Where’s the patient?” Two paramedics got out of the ambulance.
Someone in the crowd pointed at Virginia and said, “Over there.”
The paramedics walked over to Virginia. I patted her lightly and said, “Go get checked at the hospital. It’ll make your mom feel better.”
Virginia nodded, then got in the ambulance with her mom…
I never saw it coming–what happened at the school gate that morning spread all over the school in a heartbeat.
And my name, Lira, became known by every single person in the school. My medical skills were even blown out of proportion, like they were magic.
And that? That brought me some trouble…
