Chapter 40 Unexpected Fame
Lira’s POV:
Finished
“Lira, you’re straight up amazing! How’d you get so good at medicine?! Ugh, I’m kicking myself for going to the woods to train my wolf spirit this morning. I could’ve seen you work your magic for real!”
Laura had said that exact same thing at least ten times already that morning.
I stared at the class materials in my hand and tuned Laura’s rambling out completely.
This went on until lunch break.
Laura, Sally, and I walked into the cafeteria. All of a sudden, the whole place went dead silent. Every single eye turned to me.
“See that? The girl in the middle is Lira!”
“She’s so pretty–I think she’s prettier than prom queen Barbara Price! Too bad she smells like an Omega.
“I was there this morning. You have no clue how strong her aura was when she saved that girl. She didn’t look like a low–level werewolf at all–total badass!”
“No way! I showed up late this morning and missed it all…
Whispers came from every direction, and I shook my head, helpless.
But somehow, I’d become
famous without
I’d wanted to get through high school as low–key as
even trying.
Getting this much attention was the last thing I needed.
I sighed and followed Laura and Sally to a quiet table in the corner.
“Lira, you’re actually a school legend now,” Laura leaned in and whispered.
I smiled, helpless. “I never wanted to be. But what was I supposed to do this morning? Could I really just stand there and let her die?” The Hidmoon Pack’s mission wouldn’t let me walk away from someone who needed help.
“You’re right.” Sally nodded in agreement. “We’re all schoolmates. It would’ve been totally cold–hearted not to help.”
Laura let out a big sigh, sounding totally bummed. “Ugh, I’m so mad I missed it! Why did I have to go to wolf spirit training this morning? I could’ve watched you show off your skills. Now nobody’s gonna dare make fun of me for hanging out with an Omega like you.”
She gave me a sad look after she said that.
I laughed while I ate. “It’s not that big of a deal. I just know some basic medical stuff.
“Don’t listen to all the hype. You know how rumors work–100 people will tell 100 different stories. They

make me sound like some kind of genius.”
“Well, you are the coolest genius ever,” Laura said, staring at me with total admiration.

Sally nodded right along. “Totally. Pulling someone back from a heart attack? Even if I wasn’t there, I know your skills are for real.”
I listened to their compliments and just laughed, giving in to what they were saying.
Coming from Hidmoon Pack, I had healing powers naturally. That way, nobody would suspect my Omega rank because of how good my medical skills were.
We were talking when a soft, sweet voice cut in. “Hi, Lira. I’m Barbara Price. Thank you so much for saving that girl this morning. I would’ve felt guilty forever if–you hadn’t.
“If my friends and I weren’t so popular, there wouldn’t have been such a big commotion. That regular- level girl never would’ve gotten so excited she had a heart attack.”
I looked up. Barbara was walking over with a group of high–level werewolf girls, all acting stuck–up.
I stared at her coldly. “I saved her because I wanted to. It had nothing to do with you. You don’t need to thank me–we don’t even know each other.”
When I said that, Barbara froze, totally shocked.
Her friends saw that and immediately glared at me, their wolf eyes sharp, growling, “You stupid Omega! How dare you talk to Barbara like that?!”
“You wanna find out how sharp our high–level werewolf claws are?!”
