Chapter 41 Watch Your Back

Lira’s POV:

“So what if Lira’s an Omega? She’s got a healing gift–do you?!

“And on top of that, what’s this even got to do with you? Didn’t you hear Lira? She doesn’t know you. Beat it!”

I hadn’t even gotten a word out when Laura popped right up and fired back at them.

She was a pure–blood high–level werewolf from a noble family too, so she wasn’t scared of these stuck–up girls one bit.

But I didn’t want her wasting her time on them, so I smiled, tugged Laura back down, and said. “C’mon, arguing like this makes you look bad! Ignore these jerks and finish your food.”

As I said it, I slid the cut–up steak right over to her.

That girl blew a fuse. She didn’t dare start a fight with Laura, so she turned straight to me and bared her sharp wolf fangs.

She was about to open her mouth when Barbara pulled her back. She plastered a fake smile on her face and said to me, “My bad for being rude. I just got back from the Maynard Continent as an exchange student, so you probably don’t know me.

“But that’s all good. I’m sure we’ll get familiar soon. You guys finish eating–we’ll get out of your hair.”

After she said that, she rounded up the other girls and left.

Sally watched their backs and filled me in. “That Barbara’s a big deal in the upper circles of the Pack Alliance. First off, she’s pretty and a high–level werewolf. Second, she’s the alpha’s daughter from Cloudburst Pack.

“And the biggest thing–she’s really good at scheming. She acts all nice and harmless to everyone, but she’s great at using people around her to do her dirty work.

“So Lira, you ticked her off today. She’ll definitely hold a grudge. You need to watch your back with her.”

I stirred the food on my plate slowly and said calmly, “It’s no big deal. I got one rule–leave me be, and I’ll leave you be, If she wants to start something with me, she’ll be sorry.”

When I said that, both Laura and Sally froze up.

They probably thought I was lying or putting on a show. After all, in their eyes, I was just a helpless “Omega.”

I didn’t bother explaining. I just went back to eating my food.

Sally thought for a second and then said sincerely, “If you ever get into trouble you can’t get out of, go find Steve. The Price family’s scared of him, after all.”

Laura talked with her mouth stuffed full of food, “And me! Don’t forge me! I can get my brother to help you too.”

My heart warmed up. I smiled gratefully and rushed them. “Hurry up and eat. Don’t worry–I’ll ask for help if I need it.”

With these two friends, I could feel their real sincerity. That kind of feeling was super precious to me.
